As the saying goes, everybody needs good neighbours. And we are all in good company as the stars of iconic Australian drama series Neighbours return to celebrate the show turning 30!
The celebration has kicked off with some of the show’s most famous stars gathering to reminisce about their favourite memories in a special Neighbours 30th: The Stars Reunite episode. This will give some of Ramsay Street’s finest residents the chance to talk about their time on the iconic show.
Neighbours boasts some impressive alumnus, most notably Kylie Minogue playing every ones favourite girl next-door, Charlene Robinson.
Others include Oscar winner, Russell Crowe (albeit it was only four episodes), Hollywood’s latest ‘it’ girl, Margot Robbie, The Voice’s Delta Goodrem and the X-Factor’s Natalie Bassingthwaighte – just to name a few!
To celebrate this milestone, we take a look at Neighbours top 10 most famous exports!
Before she was the ‘Princess of Pop’ Kylie Minogue, was Charlene Mitchell, a dungaree clad mechanic. She became a household name in 1986 and after the show jumped onto the ‘Locomotion’ of music success! Speaking of her time on the show “I feel nostalgic. So many people have so much affection for the show.”
Russell Crowe was on the hit show for four-episodes in 1987. The critically-acclaimed actor played ex-con Kenny Larkin, but we can safely say his mullet is what we truly treasured from his role.
She was born to try, the 00’s answer to Kylie Minogue – Delta Goodrem! One of Australia’s biggest popstars and judge on the Voice, Delta had a humble beginning as Nina Tucker. The singer is returning to the show in honour of the anniversary!
One minute Donna Freedman is a Neighbours ‘It’girl, the next, she has traded in Ramsay Street for Hollywood! Margot shot to international fame after staring opposite Leonardo DiCaprio in Wolf of Wall Street. “I miss being on the show, I miss being in Australia,” she said, adding: “I wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for Neighbours… No way!”
International fans of Liam Hemsworth may think he rose to fame with the Hunger Games, but for Aussies he was wheel-chair bound Josh Taylor. He was the paraplegic leading man that stole our hearts!
Liam wasn’t the first of the Hemsworth boys to set foot in Ramsay Street. Before Chris moved to sunny Summer Bay he decided to pay a visit to Neighbours. It was a brief appearance, lasting just one episode.
Today Natalie Bassingthwaighte is TVs sweetheart. She’s the ‘nice’ judge on X-Factor and found international recognition with her band Rogue traders, but her time on Ramsay Street made her one of the most hated characters on television! Nat’s character Izzy Hoyland was the blonde vixen who broke up Karl and Susan’s marriage.
We’re ‘Torn’ that it has been 20 years since Natalie Imbruglia was on Neighbours. The singer/actress went on to global success with a music, modelling and acting career.
Who could forget Jesse Spencer as Bill Kennedy? He was on the hit show for six years, and went on to break the US market on the equally as popular series, House. We think Karl and Susan would be very proud!
Before Guy Pearce was staring in Hollywood blockbusters like Prometheus, he was mullet wearing Mike Young. He revealed that he was only signed on with the show for two weeks before they saw the makings of a star!
