It’s been six years since Michael infamously called off his engagement to Lara but in a new interview with 60 Minutes he’s broken his radio silence to address claims she flushed the $200,000 ring he gave her down the toilet.
In 2010, after a naked photo of Lara was leaked to the media, Michael left a cricket tour to rush home to Sydney for “personal reasons”. Two days later, during a late-night press conference, he told the media the engagement was off and subsequently it was reported Lara “disposed” of the pricey rock in the bathroom of their Bondi home in the earlier hours that morning.
Fast-forward to 2016 and when asked by 60 minutes reporter Allison Langdon if it was Lara or himself who flushed the rock, Michael finally shut down the reports that it ever happened:
“’I’d like to say I’m a very silly man. But I’m not that silly. I’m not throwing any diamond ring down a toilet.”
He added that it was “complete, made-up 100 per cent bullsh*t!”.
Both Lara and Michael have since moved on from that day, Lara expecting her second child with actor husband Sam Worthington, and Michael having recently welcomed his first bub with wife Kyly Boldy.
