Things Matt Preston likes: Licking spoons, smacking his lips, making food sound like poetry and being a culinary hero.
Things Matt Preston doesn’t like: Being swindled by radio’s official pranksters Kyle and Jackie O.
Just like your first time attempt at souffle, the hosts attempt at pulling one over Matt fell very, very flat.
Kyle and Jackie O thought it would nice/good radio if they addressed the tension between Matt and former friend of MasterChef Marco Pierre White.
The duo knocked heads, pans and whatever else is in the kitchen when Matt commented on his aptly named son, Marco Pierre White Jr.
The cliff notes version: Last month while Matt was talking to Kyle and Jackie O… In hindsight we’re guessing the TV judge should have been prepared for another sticky situation.
At the time, Marco Pierre White Jr was making headlines in the UK for allegedly having sex with another contestant on Celebrity Big Brother in the UK and his many references to drug-taking on his SnapChat account.
Matt mused to the radio duo, “I think it is that terrible thing when you have kids that go off the rails, how do you deal with it? I don’t know. I don’t think Marco has a solution, I don’t think anyone has a solution.”
The MasterChef guru then continued digging, saying, “Well anyone who has tattoos on their face they normally behave badly don’t they? They have kind of crossed through a barrier at that point.”
2017 ‘s strangest feud reached boiling point with Marco showing he’s the top dad in town, calling Matt every name under sun, including this new insult, “canary in the coalmine.”
“The things he said about my son in the British press were disgraceful. No one should ever say that about someone else’s children. I will never forgive that man.”
In case you’re not too sure how he feels, Marco ended his outburst with this little note, “With my hand on my mother’s grave I will get that man”.
Kyle Sandilands, genuine soul that loves a good olive branch, tried to connect both Marco Pierre White Jr and Matt Preston on the phone.
Matt was clearly uninterested saying, “I think the best thing to do with those things is to let it go, don’t pour fuel on the fire,” before describing the issue as “done and locked away”.
The 53-year-old made a very quick exit as Intern Pete patched through the Londoner onto the show.
“Is that the time? I need to go!” Matt said, before leaving the show.
Chatting to the chef’s son for a few seconds, Kyle said, “Sorry to call you at 1am buddy, we just had Matt Preston on the phone but he had to go!”
Adding, “He said all that stuff was in the past anyway.”
Jackie O was clearly mortified by the entire thing, remarking, “Good one, Pete! How awkward was all that?”
While Kyle had other intentions, saying, “And in all honesty, you should have got him on-air four minutes ago when I first mentioned it!”
So what did we learn from this awkward Mystery Box? Matt and any of the Marcos are recipe for disaster.
