Margot Robbie has revealed she was “humiliated” on the set of her new Barbie movie, but not by the director or co-star Ryan Gosling.

The Australian born actress revealed it was viral behind-the-scenes photos taken by fans and photographers that had her “dying inside” during filming.

“I can’t tell you how mortified we were, by the way,” she said of the photos, which did the rounds online in June, on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

“We look like we’re like laughing, having fun, but [we’re] dying on the inside… dying. I was like, this is the most humiliating moment of my life.”

Photographers caught her and Ryan while they were filming a scene as Barbie and Ken on rollerblades and wearing matching colourful outfits.

While fans applauded Margot for embodying her character as Barbie in a long blonde wig and cheerful smile, the photos did nothing to boost the actress’ confidence.

Especially because of what the photos didn’t show.

“We look like we’re like laughing, having fun, but [we’re] dying on the inside,” Margot said.

Margot revealed that crowds of onlookers flocked to the open set during filming, meaning there were plenty of eyes on the actress while she was trying to, you know, do her job.

“I knew there would be a little bit of attention, and probably some photos would get out there, but not like it did,” she confessed. “It was like mad. It was like hundreds of people watching all the time.”

But she probably shouldn’t be surprised, given how popular she has become in Hollywood in recent years.

Though she got her start here in Australia on Neighbours (as many Aussie stars have), she gained international fame for her roles in films like Suicide Squad, I,Tonya and Bombshell.

She was even nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for her portrayal of Tonya Harding in I, Tonya, as well as a Best Supporting Actress nod when she played a Fox News employee in Bombshell.

Now she’s set to hit the big screen as Barbie and fans couldn’t be more excited.

The internet went into a frenzy when the first photo of Margot in the blonde wig and signature pink convertible was released earlier this year and the buzz has only gotten bigger since.

Directed by Greta Gerwig, the film is set for release in July 2023.
