Maggie T at 78: the ultimate cover girl makes a triumphant return!

After more than a decade out of the spotlight, ageless AWW cover star Maggie T makes a triumphant return to the cover of The Weekly

Maggie T is more than a simple style icon.

She holds a place in heart of this nation that few could hope to emulate. Certainly, if you look back on the history of The Australian Women’s Weekly, there are few faces more synonymous with the title than Maggie’s.

Maggie – born Margaret May Trigar in December 1936 – is luminous in front of The Weekly’s photographers for our September cover shoot.

“This will most likely be the last time I sit in front of a camera like this, darling,” she purrs.

“So let’s make it count.”

In a wide-ranging interview with The Weekly’s Bryce Corbett – on sale Thursday – Maggie talks about fashion, ageing and her career.

From 1960s “It Girl”, to her career-defining appearances on Beauty and the Beast, to her back-to-back Gold Logies, Maggie says it’s been “one helluva ride.”

“I’ve come to the conclusion at the ripe old age of 78, that I was never very good at men,” she says.

“In fact, my daughters have told me in no uncertain terms that if I even cast a sideways glance at another man, they’re going to circle the wagons. They have told me that I am such a bad chooser of men that they will perform an intervention.”

But Maggie says she has always worked to turn a negative into a positive.

Be it weight gain, divorce or growing old.

“It’s one of the few pleasures of getting older,” she says.

“You just stop caring what other people think.”
