It all started with a simple tweet as director, actress and writer Lena Dunham checked in to JFK airport in New York yesterday.
The Girl’s creator found out her flight was delayed by 4 hours and in true Lena fashion, she tweeted a witty quip about the situation.
Honestly, we’ve all been there. We feel you, Lena.
Then things quickly took a more serious tone
Sometimes you overhear people having a conversation that you’d deem less than politically correct but not all of us have the gumption (or star power) to do something about it.
When Lena Dunham heard two American Airlines employees referring to trans kids a “trend“, she spoke out.
If she could hear it, who else could hear it and who else could these comments be influencing?
Lena finished her twitter story by expressing that being trapped in the airport had “filler her with love” and urging us not to treat each “other like cattle”.
The airline has since responded to Dunham’s comments and is following up on the situation and the staff in question.
While Lena has become infamous lately for putting her foot in her mouth through numerous online gaffs, in this case her tweets could have made a real difference to numerous individuals already struggling to feel at home in the world and their own skin.
