Since first hitting our screens on The Bachelor in 2017 and 2018, Laura Byrne and Brittany Hockley have managed to turn their 15 minutes of fame into hugely successful media careers after launching their Life Uncut podcast.
The pair’s debut episode aired back in July 2019, and since then the lifestyle and relationships podcast has been a hit – it even won the Listeners’ Choice category of the Australian Podcast Awards last year.
In each episode, the pair chat candidly about their own experiences in dating, relationships, careers and attempt to answer and give advice on questions from 20 and 30-something women about all aspects of life.
Life Uncut currently sits in the top three in both the Top 100 and Top 100 All-Australian podcast ranker, which is no easy feat given the amount of celebs trying their hand in the space.
Now, two years into their venture, Laura and Britt have revealed the hardest part about filming Life Uncut, what’s next for the programme and how they engage with their hordes of fans who tune in every week.
“At the beginning of the podcast I was definitely a little bit more reserved, and I didn’t really know where I wanted to go in terms of how much I wanted to share,” Britt told Media Week.
Britt said that since Life Uncut‘s inception, she and Laura have become “a lot more unfiltered” and decided to cover “raw” topics to make their listeners feel like they’re not alone.
Laura echoed her best friend’s sentiments, saying their time on The Bachelor affected their candor in the early stages.
“We were a bit reserved in the beginning, because we came from that reality TV world where you have to be so careful about what you say, because you’re worried that it’s going to be edited in a way that might be held against you,” she said.
The mother-of-two, who found love on Matty ‘J’ Johnson’s season five years ago, said she “found a lot of comfort” in telling her own personal stories.
Laura went on to reveal that despite the success Life Uncut has amassed, baring all to the public comes with its downsides.
“The hardest thing for me, it’s not so much sharing the story – sharing the stories is fine – for me it’s being misquoted or having one sentence that I said taken out and repurposed not in context to create a sensationalised story that doesn’t at all match up to what was actually said on the podcast,” she explained.
“Over the years Britt and I have become a lot more comfortable anytime those sorts of articles come out, we can laugh it off now.”
As for what’s next, the pair announced today that their show will be moving in part to radio, joining the KIIS1065 network for a 10am-12pm slot on Saturdays.
Brittany and Laura took to the Life Uncut Instagram page to share the announcement.
“Cat’s out of the bag, Lifers … we have some BIG news,” they shared.
“Life Uncut is coming to the @kiis1065 network from 10-12 Saturdays. It will be all the things you love about the pod, except a little bit more professional (a little bit less poo talk) but equally as hilarious and heartfelt.
“This is a pinch yourself moment for us and we are so excited for next year, brace yourself Australia … Britt’s laugh is coming for you!” they explained.
The ladies also confirmed they would continue to do their pre-recorded podcast, which currently comes out on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
“This is in addition to the pod,” they wrote in answer to a fan who commented, asking if the podcast would continue.
Life Uncut has a very dedicate fan base of ‘Lifers’, as they’re called, who will be thrilled to be getting more of Brittany and Laura in the year to come.
Teaming up with KIIS to deliver the new program, ARN announced this morning that they would be targeting and building up audiences on Saturdays, which has been identified as the ‘sixth work-day’.
Life Uncut is just the first show to be announced, with more expected in the lead-up to the new year.
“Brittany and Laura are made for radio and the show will provide the audience with conversations and interviews that navigate friendships and relationships in a way that’s entertaining and engaging,” said Duncan Campbell, ARN’s Chief Content Officer.
The new radio show will go live across the KIIS network, except on 96FM, from January next year.
