For the past couple of years Justin Bieber has been Hollywood’s resident bad boy, but now the mega-star is spending some time in Sydney to attend a 21,000 seat arena, and it’s not to perform – instead he’s getting closer to God.

On Monday, the Biebs touched down in Sydney via a private jet to kick off the week-long convention which will be held on behalf of the Hillsong Church at the Allphones Arena in Sydney’s Olympic Park.

In what was a change of pace for the Baby singer, he opted to take on the role of a simple congregate instead of the headline act. The Canadian-born popstar was joined by good friend and model Hailey Baldwin.

A spokesperson for the church revealed why the teen heartthrob won’t be performing, “people come from across the world to Sydney each year to attend Hillsong Conference. Justin is here — like tens of thousands of others, as a delegate who is seeking to build stronger foundations into his life.”

In an Instagram post the 21-year-old shared a picture of himself leaving the conference with the caption “breakthrough.”

“Breakthrough.” Justin Bieber took to Instagram to post this snap after the Hillsong conference in Sydney.

It’s believed the pop star was brought to Australia by Hillsong’s “Hipster Pastor” Carl Lentz who is responsible for the religious movement’s presence in the US.

Pastor Carl dropped out of college, then found God in 2000 and moved to Australia to study at Hillsong International College where he met his wife and fellow pastor Laura, before moving back to America.

It’s also been reported that the charismatic, tattooed sports fiend leader baptised Justin in a friend’s bathtub!

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph Pastor Carl revealed about the music sensation’s visit to Australia, “He’s on a journey. If he’s not doing good, should we abandon him? He’s here just trying to be a regular kid.”

The Hillsong Church began in Australia during the Seventies and has since catapulted to international recognition, with other famous faces joining, including Vanessa Hudgens, her boyfriend Austin Butler and a slew of super-star NBA players.

The Church has also been involved in its fair share of controversy including its founder Frank Houston admitting to sexually abusing a seven-year-old boy.

In 2007 it was alleged that Hillsong was involved in vote stacking in the Australian Idol competition.

In between attending the conference, Justin Bieber has been enjoying the sights of Sydney, after being spotted skateboarding in the eastern suburbs and enjoying a swim and gym session at Bondi’s famous Icebergs.
