Jimmy Barnes has documented the touching moment he and his wife Jane Barnes threw a surprise party for their daughter, Mahalia Barnes.
Sharing a slew of photos from the celebrations, including the Barnes family huddled together in a vehicle, a very confused looking Mahalia, as well as Jimmy and Jane all smiles at the beach, the former Cold Chisel singer wished his daughter many happy returns.
“She always knows what’s going on but not this time! Happy birthday @mahaliabarnes … Surprise!!”
Fans and friends alike delighted in the surprise celebration, particularly The Twelve star Sam Neill who jokingly penned “Crashers !” in the comments below.
Meanwhile, Jane also took to her own Instagram to share her version of events, including the lead up to the big reveal.
“Here we are in the Land of Smiles on our way to surprise Our @mahaliabarnes on her special birthday,” she wrote, referring to the vehicle picture.
“It’s been a few weeks of sneakiness and stealth as we had to make sure she didn’t find out.
“Mahalia always knows where each one of us is at any given time. She does all of Jimmy’s tour arrangements and has booked all our travel for the past five years. If anything, one would call her ‘the General’ of this family so this was no mean feat.”
She continued: “Well Jackie, Steff, EJ Elly-May Jimmy and I and all the kids met up in Hua Hin and well and truly surprised her.
“Happy birthday Mahalia. Hope you had as good a time as we did celebrating you 😂🙏🏻♥️🎶💃🎂.”
Mahalia is the second of Jimmy’s children. His first is Today Extra host David Campbell from a previous relationship. He also shares EJ, Jackie, and Elly May with his wife Jane, and has two long-lost daughters, Amanda Bennett and Megan Torzyn.

In a 2021 interview with Now To Love, Mahalia delved into her dad’s decision to speak openly about his past struggles with addition.
“I think for us as a family, it’s not always comfortable, and it’s not always easy, but we… I feel incredibly proud that my dad has taken such a strong line of speaking publicly and sharing his story and experiences,” the former Masked Singer star said.
“Not in a preachy way, but in a vulnerable way that says this can happen, and this does happen.”
