Jana Pittman shared the first photos of her newborn twins on Monday, but it wasn’t the sweet family snaps that sent tongues wagging.
In the exclusive photo shoot with our sister site New Idea, royal watchers quickly noticed the uncanny similarities between the SAS Australia star and Princess Diana.
While Jana’s supporters gushed over her adorable son Quinlan and daughter Willow, most fans were distracted by the striking resemblance the former Olympian shares with the late Princess of Wales.
The 39-year-old mum-of-six’s voluminous wavy hair made her a dead-ringer for Diana, who was known for her signature feathered bob.
Jana’s post was flooded with messages from well-wishers who drew attention to the unlikely lookalikes.
“Once I realised/remembered Princess hadn’t had twins I looked at the pics closer 😂😂 absolutely beautiful pics and such lucky babies to have all that love around them – congratulations!! 💖💙” one user wrote.
“Beautiful! I’m getting princess diana vibes from that first photo! Congratulations super mum,” said another.
“Hair is very Princess Diana 😍” another comment read.
“Why do you look like Princess Di in that first pic, had me thinking “whaaaat” 🙈❤️❤️❤️🥂gorgeous.”
Jana gave birth to her twins on March 22 following a nasty fall at her Sydney home.
“I was walking up the stairs with my son, Charlie, when he fell backwards,” said Jana, whose tummy was so large at 35 weeks pregnant, she couldn’t see her feet,” she said.
“I went to catch him and, in the process, fell backwards myself, down seven or eight steps.”
“I tried all day to keep calm. But I could feel the contractions starting during the talk, so I took myself straight off to hospital after!”
Admitting that the fall probably brought on the early arrival of her babies hours later, the doctor, who works at the Royal Hospital for Women in Sydney, is overjoyed her new munchkins are healthy and now putting on weight.
“At first, I was in shock because I wasn’t prepared for an early childbirth,” she confessed.
“I had a few tears in the special care unit. It’s a different experience when they’re ‘premmie’. I’m usually the mum that gives birth at midday and is home by 5pm with the baby. With these two, I only got to hold them for an hour before they were taken off me.”
After a week in hospital, Jana and the twins returned home. Since then, she and husband Paul Gatward, 53, have immersed themselves in the joy of getting to know their family’s newest additions.
The first of the happy tears were shed in the early hours of one morning when Jana’s eldest child, Cornelis, 15, from her first marriage to former coach Chris Rawlinson, got up, fed and settled Quinlan when he heard his sleep-deprived mum struggling.
The newborn twins are also being doted on their other older brother Charlie, 18 months, and sisters Emily, six, and Jemima, five.
