The 69th Annual Primetime Emmy Awards might be over but there are some spectacular inside moments that we won’t be forgetting in a hurry.
While the world collectively lost it over Nicole Kidman kissing co-star Alexander Skarsgård while Keith Urban looked on, there’s been another kiss causing controversy.
And, to be honest, we didn’t even notice the other kiss until James Corden addressed it.
A picture started circulating Twitter and Instagram of James planting his lips on former United States Press Secretary Sean Spicer‘s cheek and people weren’t happy about it.
Namely because people weren’t happy about the fact Spicer was even at the Emmys, attempting to poke fun at himself.
Many thought the stunt to be tone-deaf as this is the same guy who lied about crowd sizes, made extremely insensitive comments about the Holocaust and once hid in a bush to escape Donald Trump.
Basically, consensus is that it’s funny to poke fun AT Sean Spicer but we’re not laughing with him. See Melissa MCarthy for reference:
Anyway, Corden apologised for kissing Spicer amid a LOT of online backlash. Well, we think it was an apology ?
“I think people are forgetting that this man lied to the American people and should not be embraced. These Hollywood phonies kissing up to Sean Spicer are disgusting, I mean who does that?” Corden joked, as the controversial photo appeared on the screen.
He continued: “Anyone ever have that feeling when you get a little drunk and wake up the next morning and think oh god, who did I kiss last night? Understandably, some people have been disappointed by this photo, and in truth, I am disappointed by it as well. I’ve been reading a lot of harsh comments on Twitter today, and I hear you loud and clear. So much so, I’m really starting to regret that carpool karaoke we’ve taped with Steve Bannon.”
Keep those lips to yourself in future, James!
