Since shooting his new film The Greatest Showman alongside Michelle Williams, Hugh Jackman has found himself taking on an extra role – that of mentor to Michelle’s 11-year-old daughter Matilda Ledger.
Matilda, whose father Heath Ledger died after an accidental prescription drug overdose in 2008, began to spend time with Hugh after his daughter Ava, 12, befriended her on set.
“Ava has grown close to Matilda and, being the around same age, they pretend they’re like twins,” our insider tells us.
As the girls’ friendship has grown, we’re told it’s led to Matilda spending time at the Jackman family home in New York, including enjoying a few sleepovers when her mum Michelle has to go to work events and meetings.
“Matilda has stayed at Hugh and Deborra-lee’s apartment on a couple of occasions,” says our source.
“Hugh has almost come to see her as a second daughter.”
The Aussie is very much a family man, doting on his own children Ava and Oscar, 17, who he and his wife Deborra-lee Furness, 61, adopted when they were babies.
