Finding one’s perfect match can be tricky — but Hugh Jackman says that’s been the secret to his happy marriage with wife Deborra-Lee Furness.
The couple will celebrate 22 years of casually dressed wedded bliss on April 11.
“You’ve got to find the right person,” Hugh said of the secret to making marriage work. “It’s powerful, but simple.”
But he admitted it’s not easy.
“When you’re dating, you put on the best version of yourself. On the dance floor, you’re like, I’m pulling out my best moves, I’ve got my best clothes on,” Hugh quipped.
“[But] how do you transition from that person to truly being yourself? The tracksuit-pant version of yourself.”
Luckily the 49-year-old instantly found unconditional love and acceptance when he met Deborra-Lee, 62, in 1995.
“From day one, Deb and I had that [comfortable] feeling,” he insisted.
Hugh has gushed about how they hit it off from the very beginning.
“There was something that clicked between us right away,” he shared.
“It was the feeling you get when you sense this connection that tells you this is the kind of woman you want in your life.”
Hugh also credits the fact that they met before he was famous to their successful marriage.
“One of the great pieces of fortune in my career, it started late, but that Deb and I were already set together, a team, madly in love, like literally before it all happened,” the actor told recently told People.
“We can kind of see all the ups and downs for what they are. Our priority is our family, and we’re there for each other no matter what.”
