When Hugh Jackman arrived at the VIP tent in Hyde Park, London, last month to watch Pink live in concert, it was a case of “Hugh who?” as all eyes were on his cheekbone-chiselled wife Deborra-lee Furness.
The 54-year-old Wolverine legend looked proud as punch escorting his spouse of almost three decades, forming a covetous circle around her, as they battled through partygoers at the British Summer Time festival.
LEADING LADY
One onlooker, who was there when Hugh and Deb, 67, arrived, exclusively tells Woman’s Day, “Photos don’t do justice to her. Deb is a remarkably beautiful woman. She was turning heads everywhere. In real life, Hugh looks kind of dowdy compared to her. She was glowing.”
No wonder Hugh was being super attentive to Deb, with the insider revealing that he never left her side.
“He was so protective, always leaning in to listen to her every word and his eyes were constantly checking the perimeter for anyone getting too close to her. She’s his queen and rightly so. She’s absolutely lovely, so friendly and chatty.”
The couple, who celebrated 27 years of marriage on April 11 and are parents to Oscar, 23, and Ava, 18, have outlasted most Hollywood marriages and friends say it’s down to one simple thing.
“He absolutely worships her,” says a close friend. “He put her on a goddess pedestal the day they met and she’s never, for one moment, been taken down. He knows how lucky he is to have her. She’s the one behind everything, keeping it all together, and he’d be nothing without her.”
In a 2011 interview, Hugh admitted Deb puts up with a lot, saying, “If you ask my wife, the biggest fault is my inability around the house. She says the only thing handy about me is that I’m close by. And, I have a terrible memory. I’m bad at saying no. I often double-book. There are a lot of things.”
COMING HOME
With Hugh on the home run with his Deadpool 3 shoot, the couple are looking forward to flying home to Oz just as Baz Luhrmann’s movie Australia, which stars Hugh and Nicole Kidman, gets reimagined as miniseries Faraway Downs.
“They haven’t stopped talking about getting back home for a while,” adds the friend. “Hugh has every intention of sneaking Deb away to some remote spot for some couple’s time. With the kids growing up, they’ve been having a full-blown romantic renaissance.”
