On Tuesday, Harrison released a statement praising his long-time colleague and dear friend.
“Carrie was one-of-a-kind…brilliant, original. Funny and emotionally fearless. She lived her life, bravely,” the 74-year-old said.
Before adding that his deepest condolences are with her family, especially her daughter Billie Lourd, her brother Todd Fisher, her mum Debbie Reynolds, and “her many friends. We will all miss her.”
Harrison’s touching statement is a testament to their life-long bond, which included a brief liaison while they filmed Star Wars in the ’70s
The actress, who tragically died from a heart attack on December 27, recently went public with her affair with Harrison in her third memoir, The Princess Diarist.
“It was so intense,” the star explained of her three-month fling with the film’s lead actor. At the time, the star was just 19 while Harrison was 33 and married to Mary Marquardt.
“It was Han and Leia during the week, and Carrie and Harrison during the weekend,” she reflected.
Before her death, the actress confirmed she had warned Harrison their affair had made it into her book.
“He’s incredibly private. I feel really bad about doing that to him. But yes, I told him I found the journals and I was going to publish them, and he sort of went, ‘Lawyer,'” Carrie revealed to People.
Star Wars filmmaker George Lucas also paid tribute to the great actress, whom he cast as Princess Leia.
“Carrie and I have been friends most of our adult lives. She was extremely smart; a talented actress, writer and comedienne with a very colorful personality that everyone loved,” he said in a statement to E! News.
“In Star Wars she was our great and powerful princess – feisty, wise and full of hope in a role that was more difficult than most people might think. My heart and prayers are with Billie, Debbie and all Carrie’s family, friends and fans.”
Carrie’s mother and actress Debbie Reynolds, 84, took to Facebook to remember her daughter.
“Thank you to everyone who has embraced the gifts and talents of my beloved and amazing daughter. I am grateful for your thoughts and prayers that are now guiding her to her next stop. Love Carries Mother.”
