Alongside a photo of the father-of-two giving the thumbs up, his statement began: “Just want to say a sincere & heartfelt thank you for all the wonderful messages of support after Sunday’s accident.”

“The volume and warmth of the well wishes has blown us away and really lifted our spirits for both Dale & myself.”

“Most importantly I really want to thank the extraordinary efforts of Race Solutions, the first response rescue team who did an incredible job getting us out of the car & taking such great care of us in a very difficult situation.”

Grant continued: “Thanks also to the fellow competitors who stopped and came to our rescue, the event organisers and also our Lotus family for being so compassionate and doing everything to get us the best help possible.”

“I am thankful that the car and all its safety features performed perfectly to keep us safe, considering speed of the accident. The roll cage, our safety gear and the design of the car all combined to help us walk away from what was a pretty big crash.”

“We’re both pretty lucky injury-wise and although we’re very sore, we’re making good progress and hope to be up and about reasonably quickly.”

“Dale has had successful knee surgery and is in good spirits, while I’ve broken a couple of bones as well but we both hope to be up and about pretty quickly.”

“I’ve fractured the sacrum which is at the base of the spine & hips, plus one finger. I’ve currently got a lot of swelling in my hips and groin from the safety belts which is preventing me from being able to walk at the moment but that should go down in the next few days and I’ll return to normal.”

“In short, we’re both very lucky boys. Lucky to walk away almost unscathed and lucky have the help of such wonderful staff at the Alfred & Royal Melbourne Hospitals, plus the love and support of both our families and everyone who’s sent us get well messages. It’s been truly been overwhelming. Thanks everyone,” Grant concluded.

On Sunday, March 26 the Gold Logie nominee and his co-driver Dale Moscatt were involved in a collision with a tree during the Lake Mountain Sprint for the Australian Rally Championships in Marysville, Victoria.

Channel Ten confirmed filming for Family Feud, which Grant hosts, has since been suspended.

Meanwhile the star’s wife Cheryl has spoken out and said she stands by her husband’s passion.

“Strangely enough, I sat down last Thursday to start writing an article for my blog about what it’s like to be married to a daredevil, but I couldn’t find the right words. It just wasn’t working… so I stopped writing it,” Cheryl, who shares daughter Scout and Sailor with Grant, revealed to The Herald Sun.

“It’s been a hard day, but I have never tried to talk him out of it and I wouldn’t because I know how much he just loves it.”

“He doesn’t really have accidents and I don’t really worry. He’s told he’s fine, it was just a freak accident.”

We’re so glad Grant is OK!
