George Clooney and wife Amal have spent the months after the birth of their twins, Alexander and Ella, tucked away at their villa in Lake Como.
Of course, there have been a few pictures here and there โ still nothing of the worldโs most famous twins, though โ and a handful throwaway comments. But now, the couple, who wed in 2014, have opened their doors to the public by way of a very revealing interview.
Hereโs what they had to sayโฆ
On finding love later in lifeโฆ
โEvery single day of my life, I just feel lucky,โ the Money Monster actor tells The Hollywood Reporter in a lengthy profile titled โAt Home With George Clooney in Italy.โ โLucky in my career. Lucky enough to have found the perfect partner. Sometimes in life it doesnโt happen on your schedule, but you find the person that you were always supposed to be with. Thatโs how I feel, and I know thatโs how Amal feels.โ
On the inspiring reason why they decided to start a familyโฆ
โIt had never been part of my DNA,โ George says of parenting. โWe didnโt plan on it. We never talked about it until after we were married, which is funny. There was an assumption that we didnโt want them. And then, after the wedding, Amal and I were talking and we just felt weโd gotten very lucky, both of us, and we should share whatever good luck weโve got. It would seem self-centered to just have that belong to us.โ
On the moment they discovered not one but two (!!) babies were on the wayโฆ
โ[The doctor] goes, โWell, thereโs one,โโ George, 56, says of the ultrasound. โAnd I said, โGreat.โ And then he goes, โAnd thereโs the second one.โ And I was like, โWhat?โ We just sat there, staring at that piece of paper they give you, and I kept thinking there was a mistake.โ
On the way parenthood has changed their livesโฆ
โNow my house is filled with the warm sounds of babies crying,โ George tells the publication. โYou should see when my friends show up and see me change a diaper, the laughter that comes from them. I go, โI know, I know.โ Iโve given them so much shit for so many years, I deserve every bit of it.โ
โWe are unrestedโweโre both unrested, and sheโs more unrested than me, obviously,โ he later adds. โBut Iโm a very good diaper guy, which I didnโt know I would be.โ

And the possibility of expanding their broodโฆ
โIโm 39,โ Amal tells the magazine, shaking her head to a question about more children. โI already had them quite late.โ
On what surprises Amal most about her husbandโฆ
โWhat a great father he is.โ
On the magical (and somewhat awkward) way they became engagedโฆ
โIโm the cook in the family,โ George says with a smile. โBelieve me, Amal makes reservations. I did pasta of some form, not that impressive. And then over champagne, after dinner, I told her there was a lighter to light the candle in the drawer, and she reached back and pulled out a ring. And I did all the stuff, got down on my knee and did all the things youโre supposed to do.โ
โShe just kept staring at the ring, going, โOh, my God,โโ the Suburbicon director adds. โIt was 20 minutes of me on my knee, waiting for her to say yes, because she was so shocked.โ

George also opened up about his extravagant wedding in 2014.

The actor-director said their wedding became โan eventโ once people got wind of their plans.
And their beyond extravagant weddingโฆ
โOh, my God! Once people got wind of it, it became an event,โ the actor says. โWe took a bus from here to Venice, then we got on a boat, and once we got on the boat, there were so many paparazzi and so many people standing there waiting. We were sitting down in the boat, and I was like, โYou know what? Why are we hiding? Why are we ducking? We shouldnโt be ashamed of this.โ And we got up and waved.โ
The rest, as they say, is historyโฆ literally.
