Michelle Bridges introduced baby Axel in an exclusive interview and photo shoot for the The Australian Women’s Weekly.

The high-powered fitness entrepreneur describes how her son has turned her world upside down and is “the best thing I’ve ever done”.

“I’ve got this mother instinct that people always talk about,” the proud, sleep-deprived new mum says. “It’s quite fierce and protective.”

The 45-year-old – whose career appeared to preclude children for many years – shares details with The Weekly about Axel’s birth, a medical drama that saw her re-hospitalised just days afterwards and her life in a blended family with celebrity trainer partner Steve “Commando” Willis.

Steve’s three children from two previous relationships have bonded with their new brother, planting kisses on his head during Christmas celebrations, she says.

Michelle also addresses criticism she received for working out during pregnancy – acknowledging “a lot of people were freaked out that I was exercising” – and reveals how pregnancy and childbirth have changed her body.

With a new set of priorities, Michelle outlines her approach to post-partum weight-loss, exercise and how she’ll juggle caring for little Axel with managing her fitness empire and work commitments, including a new book, frozen food range and fitness attire.
