Edwina Bartholomew revealed last week that she’s engaged to her boyfriend of six years, Neil Varcoe.

The much-loved presenter, who is perhaps best known for her work on Channel 7’s Sunrise, quickly followed the happy announcement with a glimpse at her rather impressive engagement ring.

But it seems she wasn’t initially thrilled with the Fairfax & Roberts diamond sparkler…

“I chose one [a ring] that was a lot smaller and then he quite literally accidentally got the one that was a lot bigger,” she told The Daily Telegraph.

“We actually went to the store and I tried to make him take it back, and they don’t take refunds.”

“So I’m stuck with this rather large, amazingly gorgeous, gigantic diamond ring,” she joked.

The lovely couple have been together for six years.

The 33-year-old added that she and her new-fiancé, a digital journalist, are planning a low-key wedding with plenty of sausage rolls, meat pies and ham rolls.

“My only prerequisite is that we have sausage rolls and pies and ham rolls at the end of the night,” she explained.

“I am dead serious, I love sausage rolls and I hate it when you go to weddings and it is all fancy food and you can’t actually eat anything.”

Of the special proposal at their rural NSW farm a few weeks ago, Edwina told TV Week that it was “very simple and very lovely”.

“It was wonderful,” Edwina told the publication on the Logies red carpet.

“We’ve just been overwhelmed by the outpouring of beautiful messages from Sunrise viewers, from obviously our family and friends, and it’s been a really lovely couple of days since we made it public.”

The duo managed to keep their happy news a secret for two weeks.

As for the wedding date? It seems no plans have been made just yet.

“We’ve been together for six years and so we’re not in any hurry”, Edwina said.

“It will just be family and friends and something low-key. We’re not having 500 guests and a drumming band, it’s going to be pretty simple.”

Congratulations again to the happy couple!
