After the unprecedented year that was 2020, which saw Mother’s Day marked in lockdown separated from loved ones, there was no doubt this year would be an improvement on the last.

But, for Dannii Minogue the special day is going to be all the sweeter as she marks the occasion with FOUR generations of her family together in one place.

With the family usually split between Australia and the UK, it’s rare to have a Mother’s Day all together, so you can bet they’re popping some bubbly in celebration.

“Well, I’ve told my son, I definitely need breakfast in bed – it has to start with that,” Danni, 49, tells Now To Love exclusively.

“And then in the early evening, I’ve got my grandma, who is 101, my mum and my sister. So we can pop a bottle and start celebrating and be all girly and mumsy.”

Dannii even has her choice of bubbles sorted.

“The Yellowglen bottles they’ve done for their 50th anniversary are so pretty and look gorgeous on the table.”

Just how lucky the TV star, singer, and fashion designer is to be living in Australia and celebrating in close quarters with her family, isn’t lost on her.

“We were very, very lucky to have got through last year with everybody safe and healthy.

“My mum is Welsh so we have family over in the UK, I lived there for 22 years, I’ve got friends there and I’m doing work via Skype at night time,” Dannii explains, “So, I’m well aware how special it is to be with my mum, hug her, and be together.”

Living back in Australia, where restrictions are far further eased than those in the UK, has also allowed for cherished family time.

Particularly with sister, Kylie, home in Melbourne, too.

“We’ve been doing things like COVID-related Marie Kondo-style clear outs to making costumes and shoes and enjoying all these things together,” Danni said on spending time with her equally famous sister.

“My brother turned 50 last year, my dad turned 80, I’m about to turn 50, so, for us as a family we’re going through a lot of photos and enjoying that and having a giggle.”

Dannii’s big sister Kylie returned home in January.

With Covid creating more downtime for precious family moments Dannii says she’s most thankful her son, 10-year-old Ethan, is getting quality time with his aunt.

“She’s [Kylie] been having some really good one-on-one time with Ethan, because normally she is quickly in and out of Australia or we are seeing her in London, so it’s nice for them to just hang out.”

The 49-year-old shares Ethan with ex, Kris Smith, and says she takes the same approach to co-parenting as she does with any relationship.

“I think the same with having a relationship, when you’re with someone or you’re not with them it’s about communication. Just clear communication always makes everything so happy.”

As for who Ethan takes after, the jury is still out, if anything he could become quite the triple threat.

“He loves singing and rapping and dancing and performing, but not in front of anyone,” Dannii tell, “But, he just really got into football.

“So I think a bit from both parents. I can’t really help out with any of the sporty stuff, he said to me the other day, ‘Mum, I’ve learned how to do a tackle’ I’m like, okay, what are the rules?” she laughs.
