He might play an infallible god in the movies, hell, he looks like an infallible god in real life, but it turns out Chris Hemsworth is a mortal man and he may very well be dead if it wasn’t for his superhero wife.
Hemsworth was hiking through the mountains with wife Elsa Pataky when he was hit with pretty severe altitude sickness. He did what most men do and pretended he was fine.
“We went on this three-day hike through the mountains,” Hemsworth said, according to news.com.au.
WATCH: Chris talks hilariously about travelling with kids.
“We were a few thousand metres above sea level and my body just wasn’t acclimatising and adjusting to the change.
“I started becoming really short of breath, I had fluid in my lungs and I was trying to ignore it. I was going to sleep and my wife listened to me breathe, she could hear it in my chest, and said, ‘I think something is wrong.’ I was like, ‘I am fine, I am fine, just go to sleep.’”
“She got up and told the guard we were with and he came in and looked at me and said, ‘Oh God. We have got to get you off the mountain.’ So they strapped me up to oxygen and injected something in me and drove me down the mountain and let my body sort of acclimatise and adjust.”
“Apparently, if I was up there for another few hours, it could have gone drastically bad.
“I am lucky my wife was there to slap some sense into me,” he laughs. “She was the hero. I was in distress, I needed to be saved.”
Hemsworth recently opened up about his hectic career had put a strain on his marriage.
“In terms of work, [Elsa has] certainly given up more than I have. She’d like me to step back and be at home with the kids more, and of course, I want that too. But I feel like I’m at this crucial point in my career – I’ve just got to set up for longevity or I’ll slip off,” he said.
Looks like it’s lucky they sorted things out, or Thor might be no more.
