The world is in shock, mourning and disbelief once again with the horrific shooting at a country music festival in Las Vegas, which has left 58 people dead and over 515 injured.
This marks the 270th mass shooting in America this year.
The gunman has been named as 64-year-old retiree Stephen Paddock. It’s believed the lone gunman began shooting from the 32nd floor of the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino hotel into the 30, 000 strong crowd of punters at the Route 91 Harvest festival.
Overnight, celebrity tributes have been pouring out with the A-list sending their thoughts and prayers to the victims and their families.
Mariah Carey, who has held a residency in Las Vegas, learnt of the new while she was live on air speaking with Good Morning Britain.
As host Piers Morgan explained what had happened, the singer was stunned into silence before commenting: “That’s awful. I pray for the victims. I hope all this can stop. I pray for the victims and hope all these can stop as soon as possible.”
“I’ve spent a lot of time in Vegas, and this type of thing happening anywhere is a huge tragedy. I continue to pray for the victims. I hope we have an end to this as soon as possible. It’s terrible because people are going out to listen to music. Really, they’re out for the night and something like this happens… It’s shocking.”
But some viewers thought telling the mother-of-two about the shooting on air was crass.
“So tasteless breaking the Vegas news to Mariah Carey live on TV, shame on you,” one person penned.
“Someone should have spoken to Mariah off air letting her know what was going on then postponed, instead of throwing that at her,” another agreed.
“Good morning Britain talking live about the shooting in Las Vegas and Mariah Carey’s there lay on the sofa like she’s posing for a photo shoot, is she for real?” One fan fumed.
‘People dying… Mariah Carey feeling sorry for them whilst lying like a diva on a chaise lounge.”
Meanwhile another long-standing Vegas performer, Britney Spears, also took to social media to share her disbelief.
“Completely heartbroken over the news this morning. Keeping the victims of last night’s tragedy in Las Vegas in my prayers #PrayForLasVegas,” she wrote.
