Fans were shocked to wake up to the news that their beloved television couple, Carrie Bickmore and Chris Walker had split after being together for more than a decade. Now, Chris has finally broken his silence.
The Project producer took to Instagram to express his gratitude to his friends and family for the support.
“Thanks to friends, family and colleagues on an otherwise rubbish day,” he wrote.
“Glad I get to be with the three best people on earth (+ Jem) to finish it. Your words and kindess (and food) have been cherished. I haven’t got back to you all but I will and I love you heaps.”
The photo featured Carrie and Chris’ two biological children, Evie and Adelaide alongside Carrie’s first-born child, Oliver.
Although Chris and Carrie never married, the producer became a father figure to Oliver after his biological father, Greg Lange sadly passed away a few years after his birth due to a battle with brain cancer.
Jem, who is a family friend, was also featured in the sweet picture.
When announcing the split, the former Project host took to Instagram to assure followers they are focusing on their three children.
”Hi there, it’s with immense sadness that Chris and I have decided to separate,” she began.
“Whilst this is a tough time, our sole focus is on parenting, loving and supporting our three children Ollie, Evie and Addie with everything we’ve got. They are doing great. We won’t be making any further comment.”
Chris and Carrie’s love story began between takes and rehearsals while on The Project. She left the show just two months before announcing her split, calling it quits after 13 long years.
“To Chris, thank you for everything. Your guidance and advice over the years, your amazing production skills,” she said at the time.
“This show has given us so much. We wouldn’t have our beautiful prophets if it wasn’t for The Project.”
Meanwhile, Chris shared a tribute to Carrie in the lead up to her final day, he wrote: “What an unbelievable ride it’s been for you babe. We all love you and can’t wait for what’s next.”
