Can you believe that it’s been 10 years since Britney Spears infamously struck out at a photographer with an umbrella?!
Now, the photographer who was on the receiving end of the attack – Daniel Ramos –is auctioning off the green umbrella on the 10 year anniversary of the headline-making incident.
He revealed to Broadly on Tuesday that he will donate half the proceeds to a charity of Brit’s choice.
The scandalous event happened back in 2007 when the singer was going through a breakdown. She was in a custody battle with then-estranged ex Kevin Federline, and had shaved all of her hair off just days earlier.
At the time, she was driving through a petrol station and was being swarmed by paparazzi. She then got out of the car, swinging her umbrella at Daniel’s car, screaming, “F—k you!”, before dropping it, getting back into her car and speeding off.
Britney later apologised in a statement on her website, explaining the incident was just her preparing for a character she was auditioning for.
“I apologize to the pap for a stunt that was done 4 months ago regarding an umbrella,” she wrote. “I was preparing my character for a role in a movie where the husband never plays his part so they switch places accidentally.”
“I take all my roles very seriously and got a little carried away. Unfortunately I didn’t get the part.”
The following year she was placed under a 5150 involuntary psychiatric hold.
In the past few years, Britney has well and truly gotten herself back on track. Last year, she dropped her ninth album Glory, as well as making her comeback by performing on the VMAs stage for the first time since 2007.
Yesterday she posted an Instagram video, pulling silly faces in a series of pics with her 10-year-old son Jayden.
It’s so nice to see Brit smiling – which, these days, is more often than not!
