Scottish comedian and actor Billy Connolly has received treatment for Parkinson’s disease and prostate cancer.
The 70-year-old star had surgery in the US after he was diagnosed with prostate cancer and is currently having ongoing treatment to manage his Parkinson’s disease.
“The operation was a total success and Billy is fully recovered,” Connolly’s spokeswoman said in a statement.
“In addition, Billy has been assessed as having the initial symptoms of Parkinson’s disease for which he is receiving the appropriate treatment.”
Despite his illnesses, Billy will commence filming of his new TV show in the next few months and will undertake an extensive tour of New Zealand next year.
“Billy has been assured by experts that the findings will in no way inhibit or affect his ability to work,” the spokeswoman said.
Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disorder of the central nervous system. Modern treatment means sufferers can continue to lead fulfilling lives. Actor Michael J Fox was diagnosed in 1991 and continues to work in a range of films and TV shows.
