It seemed just about everybody had a tense run-in with Ronnie Caceres on Celebrity Apprentice this year.
But a fierce feud that didn’t make it to air was between The Block star and NRL legend Benji Marshall.
Fresh off his Celebrity Apprentice win last night, Benji appeared on the Kyle and Jackie O Show to reveal why he fell out with controversial Ronnie.
Benji, who said Ronnie was the “least authentic” person on the show, went into detail on a behind-the-scenes argument that viewers never saw.
“He really had a go at me one day. I said, ‘Please Ronnie, not today, I’m having a really bad day’. And he goes, ‘Do you want to make good TV or not?'” Benji revealed.
Benji said he then reminded Ronnie that the show was about raising money for charity, not putting the Block star in the spotlight.
“He’s famous for being on reality TV, so I think he knows what it’s about. But I think he tried to play a role that in the end, he doesn’t look so good,” the former Rabbitohs star said.
When asked by Karl why he didn’t “knock Ronnie out,” Benji revealed he nearly did.
“Well it’s funny, I did get a bit of a brief from HR about that because I thought I was going to [knock him out],” Benji said.
Benji said Ronnie’s joke about co-star Jean Kittson “having dementia” was the final straw.
“It’s not a joke. My wife’s grandmother died from dementia… whether he thought it was funny or not, that’s not the point. I just hope he learned from that. You just don’t say that,” he said.
“But he was playing a role, he was.”
But the father-of-two isn’t letting his beef with Ronnie spoil the excitement of raising an epic amount of money for his charity, Souths Cares.
“Who would’ve thought, just a washed-up footy player winning Celebrity Apprentice?” Benji joked after he was crowned the winner. “We raised over half a million dollars.”
