Benedict Cumberbatch and his new wife Sophie Hunter have welcomed their first child together.
The couple, who married on Valentine’s Day this year, released a statement saying they were “delighted to announce the arrival of their beautiful son”.
Mother and baby are believed to be doing well and the couple have asked for privacy during this “precious” time.
Millions of women around the world were heartbroken when Sherlock star – and major heartthrob – Benedict and Sophie announced their engagement in a notice in the UK’s Sunday Times newspaper.
The couple met when they co-starred in 2009 film Burlesque Fairytales and have reportedly just purchased a new country home on the Isle of Wight, close to their wedding venue.
Benedict has been keenly anticipating the birth, gushing about his impending arrival in an interview earlier this year.
“I’m so excited to meet my child, and it’s a huge part of my life and it’ll be the most important part of my life, as it should be” he told ET Canada.
“I think what children do is enhance your life, they don’t inhibit it. They don’t limit it, they give you inspiration and depths of understanding of the human condition and what it is to be on this planet and what our purpose is, that goes well beyond anything a childless actor could hope for.”
