Not only did her kiss with Alexander Skarsgård get tongues wagging, but she was also criticised for failing to mention the adopted children she shares with ex-husband Tom Cruise – Bella, 24, and Connor, 22 – in her acceptance speech, during which she dedicated her win to her and Keith’s daughters Sunday, nine, and Faith, five.

Connor and Bella feel left out of Nicole’s life.

“Bella didn’t watch the Emmy’s live but read about it all online afterwards and she was very upset that Nic talked about her Nashville family – but not her and Connor,” an insider explains.

“She took it as a big snub.”

Nicole’s relationship with Bella and Connor, who chose to live with their father and remain Scientologists after their parents split, has long been a source of controversy.

While she claims to speak to them often, it has been years since the actress has been photographed publicly with either of her adopted children.

“Bella didn’t watch the Emmy’s live but read about it all online afterwards and she was very upset that Nic talked about her Nashville family – but not her and Connor,” an insider says.

It’s believed her deflection from The Church of Scientology when she divorced from Tom Cruise in 2001 played a part in their estrangement.

It’s been widely reported the star had been labelled a “Suppressive Person” by the organisation and therefore not allowed to maintain a relationship with her two children, who are practicing Scientologists.

Nicole has never addressed these claims and instead maintains a dignified silence, explaining: “I’ve chosen not to speak publicly about Scientology. I have two children who are Scientologists – Connor and Isabella – and I utterly respect their beliefs.”

Forgetting someone? A few years back, Connor Cruise posted this flashback pic with his sister Bella and father Tom on social media, captioning it: “#LoveMyFamily.”

However in actress Leah Remini’s biography, Troublemaker: Surviving Hollywood and Scientology, the King of Queen actress, who left the church in 2013, claims she bumped into Isabella and Connor at Tom Cruise’s ill-fated wedding to Katie Holmes in 2006 and was left ‘shocked” when Bella revealed she doesn’t stay in touch with her mum.

“I had always wondered why they didn’t have a relationship with their mum,” Leah explained, before asking them: “Hey, guys. How’s your mum? Do you see her a lot?”

“When I asked if she talked to her Mum, Bella scoffed and said, ‘Not if I can help it, she’s a f–king SP [suppressed person]’. Connor just looked out the window. There was something human about his silence and the sadness I felt in it,” Leah alleges.
