Andy Lee has interviewed some of the biggest names in showbusiness throughout his 20-year career, so it’s not surprising he’d have encountered his fair share of divas.
On Tuesday, the comedian candidly revealed his “least favourite guest” he ever chatted to on the Hamish & Andy Show was none other than singing superstar Justin Bieber.
Andy and Hamish Blake interviewed the then-21-year-old during the singer’s September 2015 Australian visit, but things didn’t go too smoothly.
“Bieber was one of the least favourite guests I’ve ever had on the Hamish & Andy Show. Because he was a brat,” Andy revealed on Nova’s Fitzy and Wippa this morning.
The 40-year-old revealed that Justin’s record company informed him and Hamish that the singer wanted to play table tennis during their exclusive chat.
“He took on Hamish’s dad because he was the only person who played table tennis. But he rocks up late, during the interview he started eating a sandwich. And I said, ‘Would you like to stop for a second and finish your sandwich and we can keep going?'” Andy said.
“He’s like, ‘No’. And then he took the the game really seriously. He swore at Hamish’s dad which we edited out.”
Andy said Justin then went to perform a rooftop show, where he yelled at his young fans for singing along to his song.
“He goes ‘stop, stop, stop, stop. No one came here to hear you. If I came here with my full band, that’d be fine. But it’s just me acoustic. I’m trying to do something real. No one came here to hear you. We’ll start again’,” Andy recounted.
“And then the record company goes ‘can we cut that out?’ because it was a prerecord. It felt like a day of just cutting out his bad habits.”
“And I always feel bad ragging on people that have come in because you never know what day they’ve had and all that. So obviously, at a time, in his life when he was just getting flown around and getting screamed at by girls that is.”
Ironically, Andy revealed Justin’s behind the scenes team were “the most delightful” people he’s ever met.
“They are so brilliant at their jobs but obviously they’re used to just putting out fires,” he laughed.
