Not only is I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out Of Here! alum Alli Simpson lucky to walk following a horrific neck injury, it’s a miracle she’s still alive.
The 23-year-old younger sister of singer Cody Simpson, broke two vertebrae (C6 and T1) last October after diving head first into a pool, hitting her head on the bottom and blacking out.
Alli initially felt okay, but by December her neck pain and headaches had become unbearable so she sought medical attention.
“I was living my day to day life with a broken neck for three months having absolutely no idea. Unaware I was a walking time bomb,” she wrote on Instagram.
“For some reason on New Year’s Eve, I had a feeling something was wrong.. my GP sent me straight for an X-Ray, from there the radiographer sent me straight for an emergency MRI.
“Once the results were in and I was back at my apartment, my doctor called and told me to not move a muscle, to call an ambulance right away to travel to the hospital completely immobilised as any sudden movement over those three months could’ve paralysed me or even worse.”
Alli then met with “an amazing neurosurgeon”, and will undergo progress scans in two weeks to find out how much longer she needs to wear her neck brace.
“Like I’ve said before.. I’ve had some serious guardian angels on my side from the moment my head hit the bottom of my friend’s Burleigh pool and every bloody second since,” she continued.
“I think I’ve cried enough tears to fill up the pool I dove into!! 🥺😅 not only sad tears but happy ones too – as I constantly remind myself how blessed I am that it wasn’t worse x”
In January, The Masked Singer alum broke her silence on her debilitating ordeal, revealing she had also tested positive to COVID while in hospital.
“Sometimes life can take a big turn in the blink of an eye.. for me, 2022 is not off to a great start. A broken neck (plus a positive COVID test),” Alli said.
Alli said she’s “extremely lucky” to be able to walk, revealing the damage “just missed” her spinal cord.
