Abbie Chatfield and Konrad Bien-Stephens’ relationship may have started off controversial, but the couple have well and truly proven their naysayers wrong.
The former Bachelor star went public with Konrad, a booted contestant on Brooke Blurton’s recent season of The Bachelorette, last month – and the pair recently reached a huge relationship milestone.
In an Instagram video that hit us all right in the feels, Abbie revealed the adorable way Konrad first told her “I love you”.
To make the moment extra special, Konrad took Abbie to a drive-in movie theatre – which she said has always been her “life dream”.
“So on my podcast, I always say how I want to go to the drive-in movies and no one’s ever taken me, and he listened to my podcast, heard this and surprised me with the drive-in movies,” she explained in the voice over of her video.
“When we arrived I started sobbing, like, full-on sobbing. It’s just like, this man treats me so much better than I thought anyone ever would and is the most thoughtful, beautiful little angel on the planet. I never thought I’d ever find someone like him.”
She captioned the post: “Reminder to never settle. Gone from years of gaslighting to having the purest angel on the planet.”
Abbie continued: “Then he was like, ‘You know why I did this?’, and I was like, ‘Why?’, and he was like, ‘Because I love you’. It was very cute. We then made out and I fell asleep. No idea what the movie was, but had a great time, to be honest.”
The video showed Konrad setting up a mattress and blankets on the back of his ute, buying snacks at the supermarket and arriving at Village Cinemas Coburg Drive-In in Melbourne for their special date night.
The I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! winner revealed on her It’s A Lot podcast that she was “dying” to tell Konrad that she loved him, but he beat her to the punch.
Earlier this month, Abbie spilled on her future plans with Konrad, who was eliminated after making it to Brooke Blurton’s final four suitors.
“I’ve never really had anything like this before. I’ve dated a lot of people in the last two years and he’s the first person that I’ve felt this with, which is really nice,” Abbie, 26, told Sydney Confidential.
“I’m going to Melbourne for a week to meet his family next week. We’re going from zero to 100, he’s coming to family Christmas.”
When asked if marriage is on the cards for her and Konrad, Abbie responded: “I think so, I hope so.”
The start of Abbie and Konrad’s romance was marred by controversy after the pair were spotted getting cosy in Byron Bay before his elimination by Brooke had aired.
Despite the couple waiting for Konrad being sent home to officially debut their romance on Instagram, Abbie copped flack from viewers and Brooke herself, who said she stole her limelight and accused the Love Island Afterparty host of demonstrating “white privilege and narcissism”.
Last week, Brooke wrote an impassioned Instagram post and accused the couple of ruining the show’s finale, prompting Abbie to express public remorse over the way her and Konrad’s relationship came to light.
