Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall has opened up about her life behind the cameras like never before in a brand new radio interview for BBC 5, and suffice to say there’s a lot of information to process.

Speaking to BBC Radio 5 Live’s The Emma Barnett Show in an interview set to air today in the UK, the Duchess speaks about the realities of the COVID-19 lockdown, as well as some of the things that continue to make her happy despite it all.

Speaking of the first time she and Prince Charles emerged from lockdown in a formal capacity, the 72-year-old admitted: “It’s very strange, we went to Gloucester the other day to thank these wonderful NHS frontline workers.”

“I wanted to go up to them and shake their hand and say, ‘You’ve done such wonderful job,’ but it didn’t feel quite the same standing in my little circle, don’t move left or right. You had to shout thank you, and it’s very different.”

Charles and Camilla had their first public engagement post-lockdown in Gloucester where they met NHS frontline workers – at a social distance.

Camilla also touched on another vice she discovered during lockdown, one that likely served a purpose she never expected.

Admitting that she usually “really hated the internet”, Camilla actually discovered it to be “brilliant” in the midst of isolation.

She explained that it came in handy in order for her to continue connecting with her family and those close to her.

“It is about connecting and you know it’s lovely talking to people,” she explained to Emma.

“I like talking to people and sitting and looking at peoples’ faces, and you can’t really on screens, I mean you see their faces, but you don’t get the animated look that you get looking at a real person.”

Sharing a stunning image on Instagram of the Duchess walking in the UK countryside with her dog Beth, Clarence House also shared a sweet message.

“The nice thing about dogs is you can sit them down, you could have a nice long conversation, you could be cross, you could be sad and they just sit looking at you wagging their tail!” the Duchess told Emma.

Fans were clearly taken with the image, and the Duchess’ words, with one writing in the comments: “What a great sentiment and a wonderful photo!!!!”

Another added: “So very true! Dogs are such wonderful loving and kind souls.”

Camilla also spoke candidly of her husbands vibrant spirit in the interview.

Interestingly, she added something rather unique about her husband.

“He is probably the fittest man of his age I know,” she explained.

“He’ll walk and walk and walk. He’s like a mountain goat, he leaves everybody miles behind.”

An interesting way to describe him – painting quite the picture there, Camilla.

As the UK continues to come out of lockdown with restrictions slowly easing, we’ll begin to see a lot more of Charles and Camilla as they resume their usual duties.

That’s not to say the pair haven’t stopped throughout the isolation period of the pandemic – both continued to work from home, touching base with their various patronages and shining a light on charities working hard in the social justice space.

As for what’s next is anyone’s guess – for now, we’ll simply bide our time until someone asks Charles which spirit animal Camilla embodies!
