While Australia grits its teeth for a chilly winter ahead, Britain is setting its sights for a bright summer – and it all starts at Buckingham Palace.
In the first garden party of the year, the Palace threw its first summer bash with thousands of guests in attendance, including members of the royal family themselves.
And in what might be her most glamorous look of the year yet, Duchess Camilla stood out in a striking white dress, dazzling onlookers and proving she’s well and truly nailing the fashion stakes.
With her husband Prince Charles playing host for the event on behalf of Queen Elizabeth, the tricksy twosome were all smiles as they mingled with guests and shared plenty of animated conversations.
Wearing a stunning white Bruce Oldfield dress along with a feathered hat by royal favourite designer Philip Treacy, Camilla kicked off summer in true style.
Meanwhile, Prince Charles was well and truly on form, wearing a grey three piece suit while holding a top hat – very fetching!
Princess Anne also looked beautiful in a power blue skirt suit and matching hat.
The events are held at the Palace four times throughout the year, with different royals attending each.
According to Hello!, each party serves 27,000 cups of tea, 20,000 sandwiches and 20,000 slices of cake – how very quintessentially English!
Guests in attendance at the event were thrilled with how it went – and we can’t blame them, it’s a prime opportunity to dress up in their summer best.
The national anthem is played to kick things off at the event, after which the royals walk down different lanes to speak to as many guests as they can.
Also expected (and hoped!) to be in attendance this year is Princess Beatrice, Eugenie and Duchess Catherine.
Duchess Meghan, who has just given birth to her first son, will likely not attend this year as she tackles her first few months of motherhood.
It is understood that Charles and Camilla will meet Meghan and Harry’s new son, named Archie, in the coming days.
Earlier this week, it was revealed Kate and William had finally met the youngest royal, with a Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed the meeting took place on Tuesday.
Seems like there’s plenty of exciting happenings in the royal fold as summer kicks off!
