In an announcement that’s taken royal fans by surprise, Buckingham Palace has revealed the details around baby Archie’s christening, and it’s going to look very different to what we’ve seen before.
Sharing a statement on Thursday, the palace revealed the christening will be taking place on Saturday, July 6 – exactly two months after baby Archie was born to brand new parents Duchess Meghan and Prince Harry.
However, unlike the public christenings we’ve seen for each of Prince William and Duchess Catherine’s little ones, Archie’s big day is going to be vastly different.
In the statement, the palace revealed: “Archie Harrison Mountbatten-Windsor will be christened in a small private ceremony by the Archbishop of Canterbury in the Private Chapel at Windsor Castle on Saturday 6th July.”
Continuing, the statement explained: “The Duke and Duchess of Sussex look forward to sharing some images taken on the day by photographer Chris Allerton.”
The additional information will come as a relief to many after it had been touted that Meghan and Harry wished to keep the baptism completely private – so it’s good to have confirmation that we’ll be seeing some photos from the special day!

This news comes as a surprise to fans, who have up until now often been across the godparents picked out for prominent royals.
In fact, in keeping with royal tradition, members of the family are often granted as many as eight godparents.
With the potential for multiple godparents for baby Archie, we can only imagine the potential line up of some of Meghan and Harry’s closest A-list friends – but we may well never know their identities.

Earlier this week, Hello! reported that the ceremony would be an intimate occasion, with less than 25 guests would be in attendance at the big day.
Expected to be in attendance include Archie’s grandparents Prince Charles and his wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall.
Meghan’s mum Doria Ragland is also expected to fly in from LA for the milestone event, and like to also attend are Prince William and wife Kate.
Not expected to attend is Her Majesty the Queen herself, as she has a prior engagement.
While some might wonder why the great-grand-mother and reigning monarch of England will not be in attendance, it’s timely to remember that the Queen also missed Prince Louis’ christening last year – so we’re sure it’s nothing personal!
With the above information in mind, all we can say is this: Bring on Saturday!
