A young woman suffering from excessive body hair was so embarrassed about somebody finding out about her condition she covered up all year long and refrained from dating.
Appearing on the UK’s E4 programme Body Fixers the woman, identified only as Hannah, explained she’d chosen to be single because the thick dark hair on her face, chest and stomach terrified her out of being intimate with someone who might make fun of her.
“I’ve never been on a date,” Hannah told the beauticians on the show.
“I’m so self-conscious about it. If they can’t see it, like if we’re in the dark, I’m afraid they’ll feel it.”
The young Brit even said she was too embarrassed to talk to her mum about it.
She explained: “When it comes to summer it’s really difficult because I can’t shop for bikinis. I feel like I have to cover up all the time.”
While the show’s beauty gurus did appear shocked by the amount of dark hair fair-skinned Hannah had they had a solution; laser treatment.
The Body Fixers shaved the woman’s stomach, chest and face and zapped the root of the hair with a special hair removal technology.
Amazed by the results Hannah cried at seeing her smooth stomach for the first time.
“That’s crazy,” she said. “I feel like a normal person now. Thank you so much.”
While Hannah will need a few more treatments to make the results last she is a good candidate for laser removal with pale skin and dark hair.
It was not explained the reason why Hannah is naturally hirsute, there are certain medical conditions, like Polycystic ovarian syndrome (PCOS), can cause a woman to produce too many androgens, causing male-pattern hair growth and other unwanted male characteristics.
And while we are happy for Hannah if she’s happy, hair removal can be tricky (and painful!) so we don’t begrudge anyone who chooses to embrace their extra fuzz.
