Three decades after making her Hollywood debut Winona Ryder could still play the girl-next-door.
At the age of 44 the Little Women actress has managed to mature in a way that has seen her retain the youthful translucent skin and doe eyes that made her a muse of the nineties.
In a recent interview with The Sunday Times a modest Winona spoke about the satisfaction she gets from getting older and called for the celebration of women of all different ages.
“I do look older,” a mystified Winona told The Sunday Times when asked about her girlish appearance. “And, obviously, everyone knows about airbrushing.”
The actress continued: “I feel like it sounds ridiculous for me to talk about ageism, because I’ve been very lucky, in the sense that in other people’s eyes, I’ve maintained this [youthfulness] but I wish society could just celebrate ageing and it could be more of a goal. I do enjoy getting older.’
In a 2014 chat with the same paper Winona said that getting older has actually helped her get parts.
“I’m actually really enjoying getting older because I went through a period of time where I was technically old enough for roles but always associated with younger ones,” the Beetlejuice actress explained. “The whole of my thirties was spent that way. Now that I’m in my forties it’s getting a little bit easier.”
Winona last year was named the face for Marc Jacobs beauty campaign and the designer jested with Style that she made a “pact with the devil” and “doesn’t seem to age”.
But for Winona remaining youthful seems to largely come down to genetics and using invasive approaches to escape the ageing process doesn’t seem to be her cup of tea.
In a 2013 Winona talked about Botox with Interview magazine and said: “I’m not trying to knock it but, you know, I have a little bit of traffic now on my forehead – which I’m very proud of actually – and it’s interesting how people just instinctively are like, ‘Oh, maybe you should get something done for that,’ and it’s like, ‘Really?’”
Winona cited to the Telegraph that tinted sunscreen was her weapon of choice against wrinkles.
And Winona isn’t the only celebrity who appears to oppose drastic anti-ageing measures. Here are our favourite Hollywood stars who, despite the fact that several are approaching 60, have managed to age gracefully. Who is your favourite?
