As far as decades go, the 1980s have got to be up there as one of the best periods ever.
The music, the fashion and the big hair alone have been enough to inspire the zeitgeist all these years later.
Over the weekend, former Home And Away-star-turned-radio-presenter Kate Ritchie embraced her inner ’80s wild child when she attended a good friend’s Aaron Grist’s ’80s-themed birthday bash at Sydney hotspot Crown Towers.
While Kate is iconic for her polished and effortlessly chic look, the star debuted a dramatic new aesthetic that sent her fans into overdrive.

Documenting her party get-up via her Instagram page, the 42-year-old posted a close-up selfie with a pal which showcased her bold red lip, lashings of blue eyeshadow and crimped, wavy hair – one of the key hair trends from the era.
Kate finished off her look with a black off-the-shoulder top and a half-heart gold necklace.
“So the Mum’s went out and had no fun at all.. #happybirthdayazza #eighties,” the NOVA star captioned the snap.
Clearly in good company, Kate’s former Home And Away co-star Chris Hemsworth, who played Kim Hyde from 2004-2007, was also at the bash with his wife Elsa Pataky. The A-list duo turned heads in figure-hugging Spandex ensembles.
Birthday boy Aaron works on Chris’ team as one of his personal assistant. The pair have been good friends ever since they went to school together.
“We went to Heathmont College and Ringwood Primary School, played football together and now we travel the world together. It’s a pretty cool thing,” the Thor star told the Sydney Morning Herald last year.
Other A list names in attendance included Matt Damon, Idris Elba and Chris’ younger brother, Liam Hemsworth.
Kate’s rumoured new boyfriend John Bell, 25, didn’t appear to be at the shindig.
According to a new report from Woman’s Day, the pair may already have called it quits.
An insider close to the pair revealed to Woman’s Day that their large age gap has gradually been causing strain in their relationship as Kate – already busy balancing a high-pressure job with raising her six-year-old daughter Mae – struggles to keep up with his fast-paced lifestyle.
“The relationship is beginning to be extremely hard to juggle for Kate,” the source said. “John has a fairly active social life and she is struggling to keep up. While he isn’t a party boy, he is certainly into the expensive holidays and dinners.”
“On the flipside, she’s a working mum who is going through a divorce while dating a new, younger man… and it’s a lot all at once.”
While the source reveals that Kate and John are doing everything they can to make things work, it’s clear what direction the unlikely couple is headed in.
“It’s not over yet but battlelines are being drawn over their conflicting lifestyles,” the source explained.
