It’s the age-old adage that encourages you to bounce back from heartbreak: cut that ex right outta your hair.

It turns out, however, that a broken heart isn’t the sole reason people book in for a dramatic new ‘do at the hairdressers.

New research from Pantene reveals that 94 percent of Australian women think that a new haircut will give them more confidence, more strength and make them feel more in control. It’s a tall order, but it’s definitely a winning formula with four million Aussies changing their hair to boost their confidence.

Giving birth is also a factor with 54 percent of Aussie mums deciding to change their look after becoming a mother. And, even though we’re not quite as likely as those crazy Gen Y-ers to make a drastic (hair) decision after a relationship ends, 1.5 million Australians still admit to hitting the hairdressers to heal heartbreak.

We asked three women to share a time when a new hairstyle empowered them and signified a brand new start. Watch now.
