Christy Turlington: ‘I don’t want to look younger’

Christy Turlington Burns is the latest supermodel to say she’s not interested in finding the fountain of youth.

The 45-year-old recently told ELLE magazine that she doesn’t mind the little lines that come with getting older.

“Everybody is so anti-aging, but I don’t want to look younger than I am. Our face is a map of our life; the more that’s there, the better,” said Turlington.

The mother-of-two’s comments echoed those of her genetically blessed colleague, Elle Macpherson who earlier this month told the UK’s Telegraph her goal is to age gracefully.

“I don’t think beauty’s reserved for youth,” said Elle. “I think women today want to look good, they don’t want to look young. They want to feel good, they don’t want to behave like a teenager necessarily.

“My ambition has been to navigate this phase of my life with grace and I feel like I’m doing that. I see my priorities changing. I realise that this is a period where you can either go with it or it can be quite difficult.”

Macpherson, 50, says she is much more confident than she ever was in her twenties.

“I feel better now than I’ve ever felt. I look at pictures of myself when I was younger and I think, ‘God, I was so gorgeous there, but I didn’t feel it.’ Or, ‘Wow, I look so much better now.'”

Recently there has been a movement within the fashion industry to embrace age with Karen Walker, Marc Jacobs and American Apparel all famously using mature models to front their fashion campaigns.
