Latest Hollywood beauty trend: The foreskin facial

Hollywood loves a crazy beauty fad. Smear some bird poo on your cheeks for extra glow. Get bees to sting you to remove scarring. But this latest one is, well, just weird - and a little off.
Kate Beckinsale foreskin facial

From bee stings and leeches to having serum cloned from South Korean babies’ foreskins injected into your face, there’s nothing celebs won’t do in the pursuit of eternal youth.

And these celebs’ zany procedures? Case in point…

Kate Beckinsale faced outrage when she admitted on social media that she had indulged in the latest weird (off?) Hollywood beauty trend in which stem cells cultivated and cloned from the foreskins of circumsised South Korean baby boys were injected into her face by a pen containing hundreds of micro needles. Here’s how she captioned her since-removed post: “After a long flight I do like to lie down and be covered in a mask of liquified cloned foreskins – frankly who doesn’t? She added: “I especially liked you (her therapist) reassuring me it would be ‘light on penis’ as it was my first time.” Shock and awe…

Forever staying on top of her beauty game, PR queen Roxy Jacenko tried a favourite (if not a little strange) skincare treatment of the stars: Jennifer Aniston, Kim Kardashian West and Angelina Jolie, to name a few. What looks like some mud and lasers is actually called the Carbon Spectra Laser Peel and promises to solve most common skin gripes – wrinkles, pigmentation, acne, elasticity. The busy business woman posted a shot of herself getting the treatment to her company’s Instagram account saying, she loves the treatment because “[it]requires no down-time and only takes 30 mins.”

Gwyneth Paltrow has made more than one headline with her often questionable beauty advice. Last year, she recommended we all book in for vagina steaming appointments, a treatment which has been slammed time and time again by experts for its potential to burn and upset the internal bacteria. “You sit on what is essentially a mini throne, and a combination of infrared and mugwort steam cleanses your uterus, et al. It is an energetic release – not just a steam douche – that balances female hormone levels,” she wrote on her website.

Newlywed Miranda Kerr attended Gwyneth Paltrow’s inaugural Goop Health Summit over the weekend where she admitted she’s tried a detoxifying leech facial, and even taken the little blood-suckers home as a souvenir. “I kept the leeches, they’re in my koi pond. You’re not allowed to reuse them and if you don’t take them home then she kills them and I didn’t like that idea.” Even Gwen was shocked by the revelation: “I thought I was bats–t crazy!”

The Duchess of Cambridge is allegedly a big fan of the Heaven bee venom face mask, which can cost up to $600 and contains bee venom to act as a natural alternative to Botox. But that isn’t all! Beauty therapist Deborah Mitchell, who has treated Catherine in the past (and who owns the Heaven skincare line) has said her secret trick for clients with dry skin is to use “a normal chocolate spread with nuts and palm oil. The sugar in this is a really good exfoliator.” However, we can’t recommend using Nutella (as Deborah uses) or any chocolate spread on your face.

Margot Robbie

Margot Robbie uses nipple cream for the weirdest thing

Margot Robbie reaches for a tube of nipple cream when her lips are dry, she revealed in an interview with ELLE. “I use Bepanthen. Because [it] is just a cream for dry skin, it works. It’s what I’ve used my whole life,” Margot says. “I have a conspiracy theory that lip balms actually have additives in them to dry your lips out so you keep buying them.”

Drew Barrymore

It possibly looks more frightening than it actually is, but Drew Barrymore swears by the Hanacure Effect nut mask – yes, nuts. “You paint it on with a brush. It starts to dry. It pulls. It gets so tight that it literally pulls your face. But, it makes you look so fresh when you wash it off,” she wrote on Insta. “When you take it off you are 10 years younger.” Scary but effective.

Kate Langbroek

Radio host and comedian Kate Langbroek has followed in Kim Kardashian West‘s footsteps by undergoing a vampire facial (AKA having your own blood injected into your face in a bid to help with a range of skin conditions). Her co-host Dave Hughes’ response? “My god! It looks like a horror movie, it looks like a crime scene!” We kind of agree…

As much as we wish this was a strawberry-jam facial, it’s not. Kim Kardashian, who admits she loves “trying anything that makes you look and feel youthful,” shocked us all when she, too, underwent a “vampire facial”. During the procedure, blood is drawn from the arm, platelets (cell fragments) are extracted and then injected into the face to prevent wrinkles. Her reaction is all of us…

Gwyneth Paltrow, her of the vagina steaming, also admits to undergoing some pain to keep her look fresh and young – by undergoing bee sting facials. “I’ve been stung by bees. It’s a thousands of years old treatment called apitherapy. People use it to get rid of inflammation and scarring. It’s actually pretty incredible if you research it,” adding: “Man, it’s painful.” Yeah no joke.

Catherine Zeta-Jones

Catherine Zeta-Jones “I brush my teeth with strawberries because I was told they’re a natural teeth whitener — and it really works. They taste better than most toothpastes, too.”

She’s known to have expensive taste, but it turns out Angelina Jolie looks at caviar as less of a delicacy and more of a moisturiser. Rumour has it, Ange swore by smearing fish eggs on her skin to avoid stretch marks during pregnancy.

Victoria Beckham

At 42, Victoria Beckham, is looking freaking amazing. Her secret? The traditional Japanese Geisha Facials, which use nightingale droppings (bird poo) to form a cleansing paste. Yeah, no thanks.

The secret to Blake Lively’s mermaid hair is in your pantry right now. “My mum taught me this really great beauty tip. She used to put oil or mayonnaise on the bottom half of her hair before she would shower. That way, when she would shampoo, the soap wouldn’t strip the bottom of the hair and dry it out, making it brittle,” she told Byrdie.

While Salma Hayek also admits she uses mayonnaise in her long hair, she cites some other pantry staples as makeshift conditioners. “You can take avocado and put it in your hair. Another thing that’s really good for very dry hair is – are you ready for this? Egg yolk. One thing you can do to take away some of the stench is to take the skin of the egg yolk out, and put a couple of drops of lemon, but it’s still going to stink,” she told Buzzfeed.

Here’s one you should probably not try at home. “I didn’t realise that putting haemorrhoid ointment on your face is acceptable in the beauty business,” says Sandra Bullock, adding: “But apparently, butt cream helps lines around the eyes!” Considering the eye area is super delicate, we doubt we’ll be giving this one a go.

In a telling beauty post on her exclusive app, Kourtney Kardashian revealed the very cheap (and edible) secret to shiny locks: a “hair smoothie”. The inspiration came from her hair stylist, who decided to give the green concoction a go after seeing Kourt make her morning blend. The hair mask combines 1.5 avocados, 2 tablespoons of olive oil, 2 tablespoons of manuka honey, and the juice from half of a lemon. The blitzed mix is left for 45 minutes, and then washed off, leaving behind glossy and tangle-free hair. Weird and delicious.

She’s all about making a statement with makeup, but this usually means that taking off her face after an event can be a bit of a mission. Fortunately, Lady Gaga has sticky tape on hand to help peel it off. The star has also admitted to shaping her eyes with at-home sticky tape face lifts. “I wash my face, pin my hair back and put on a wig cap and ask, ‘How am I going to form my eyes today with this tape?'” she told The Mirror.

While appearing on the David Letterman show in 2008, Demi Moore revealed she tried a leech treatment while in Austria to detoxify her blood. “I feel like I’ve always been looking for the cutting edge of things that optimise your health and healing. These aren’t just swamp leeches though – we are talking about highly trained medical leeches.” Lol, okay.

Model and actress Bar Refaeli doesn’t get her glow for free. The model posted a photo of herself receiving a 24-carat liquid gold facial.

Catherine Zeta-Jones swears by her own peculiar hair concoction. “I do condition my hair with honey and beer,” she told The Daily Mail. “I smell like the bottom of a beer barrel for days afterwards but it’s very good for the hair.”

Again, do NOT try this one at home… Victoria’s Secret model Alessandra Ambrosio is ditching scissors, and instead going about her haircuts with an open flame. The bizarre technique is a Brazilian treatment called Velaterapia, where split ends are literally burnt off.

Chloë Grace Moretz revealed she swears by olive oil as a facial cleanser. She credits the popular cooking staple for keeping her skin radiant and acne free. “I swear my skin is so much clearer because of it,” Chloe, who has suffered from cystic acne, told Allure.
