We had a Zombie wedding!

We had a Zombie wedding!

This wacky couple made their vows in a ghoulish ceremony, promising to love, honour and…decay.

When most brides dream of their wedding day, they imagine walking down the aisle in a floaty white gown to exchange romantic vows with their beloved.

But horror movie-loving couple Tracey and Andy Monaghan aren’t ones to bow to tradition. Instead, they proclaimed their love for each other in a zombie wedding! “It was Andy that first got me into horror films, so this idea was just perfect for us,” gushes bloodied bride Tracey, 29.

“Before I met him I’d only ever seen one horror film and that petrified me. I have obviously come a long, long way since then.”

The spectacularly spooky wedding started when Tracey entered the church wearing a black velvet dress and caked in bright red make-up. As her husband-to-be Andy stood nervously in his “human-skin suit”, smiling at his bride, Tracey slid down the aisle with “All we want to do is eat your brains”, lyrics from US singer Jonathan Coulton’s tune Your Brains, blaring out.

As the gruesome twosome recited their vows, Tracey promised Andy she would “care for you as we decay together”.

Halle Berry’s bitter custody battle

Halle Berry's bitter custody battle

It seems US actress Halle Berry and her former partner Gabriel Aubry won’t be making peace anytime soon.

The situation between the pair, who are currently tied up in a bitter custody battle over their two-year-old daughter Nahla, has gotten worse following claims that Canadian model verbally threatened Berry.

An unnamed source told website TMZ that the 35-year-old model called Berry “the ‘N’ word” and called her a “f—ing b—-,” among other expletives.

“He constantly demeaned her. It was awful,” the unnamed source said.

The website has also reported that sources close to Berry say she is concerned that Aubry is putting their child at risk when she is in his care.

“Halle has serious concerns for her daughter’s wellbeing while in the care of her father for any extended period of time and is prepared to take all necessary steps to protect her,” Berry’s representative told the website.

Berry has cancelled an upcoming film production in New York this week to attend court to handle the matter.

How to dump your credit card

Now is as better time as ever to have the "I think we should see other people" conversation with your credit card.
woman cutting up her credit card, Getty Images

UNDER the glitz and glow of the New Year’s Eve fireworks, thousands of Australian women make a resolution each and every year to rid themselves of horrid debts. The main culprit? Credit card bills. But as the months go by, promises seem easier than progress.

Help, please.

First is the rule of one. While many of us have different credit cards for different purchases such as big, everyday and online items, this could give you multiple weak spots for overwhelming debt. Consolidating your cards into one low rate credit card will treat your future self with the cheapest rates and fees.

Second are those “rewards” programs that have us believe we’re getting our money’s worth when we get points for money we spend. No matter how enticing, your higher interest rates will make sure that you’re still kept in the red if you don’t pay your balance off in full each month, so ask yourself whether you really need a few free massages for every car you buy.

Thirdly, make a list of everything you commonly purchase with your credit card and cross off anything you can pay in cash or direct debit. According to Dun & Bradstreet (D&B) debt research data, 38 per cent of women are paying their bills on credit. This has increased by three percentage points year-on-year (comparing 12 months to September 2010) in contrast with men’s one percentage point rise. This means that not only are we relying on our cards more heavily for the occasional big spend, but we’re guaranteeing ourselves higher debt with each monthly bill.

Number four is all about guarding yourself from the unknown. In 2010, more women (47 per cent) were certain that a rise in interest rates would hamper their cash position (compared with 40 pe rcent for men), D&B found.

While a mortgage is more inflexible, cutting your dependency on credit for your basic items (food, living expenses, and some might argue shoes) will ensure that interest rate rises won’t dramatically affect your lifestyle.

Finally, there’s always the option of going cold turkey and signing up for a debit card instead. This will make sure that you don’t pile on any more interest while you’re chipping away at your debts. To help with this, applying for a balance transfer that dramatically reduces your interest rate can help breathe air back into your credit statements.

One in five women will be applying for a new credit card in the coming months, D&B found, so if you do find yourself comparing rates for a new lifestyle, make it count by remembering why you promised yourself to quit the bad habits in the beginning of the year.

The benefits of stretching

Whether it's going for your brisk morning walk, rushing off to a dance class or even doing your strength/resistance training, remember that every time you exercise you need to include a warm up and a cool down. Your warm up may be a 2-3 minute jog to raise a light sweat or even walking on the treadmill in your local gym. When you start to get a light sweat up, your body is preparing itself for more activity. It's important to warm up to increase heat throughout your body and to reduce tearing or straining your muscles. Our body "warms up" because our blood is moving more freely around our body.
The benefits of stretching

Whether it’s going for your brisk morning walk, rushing off to a dance class or even doing your strength/resistance training, remember that every time you exercise you need to include a warm up and a cool down.

Your warm up may be a 2-3 minute jog to raise a light sweat or even walking on the treadmill in your local gym. When you start to get a light sweat up, your body is preparing itself for more activity. It’s important to warm up to increase heat throughout your body and to reduce tearing or straining your muscles. Our body “warms up” because our blood is moving more freely around our body.

After warming up, we need to stretch. There are many benefits of stretching, for example:

  • Increased flexibility and freedom of movement

  • Prevention of injuries

  • Improved muscle coordination

  • Reduced risk of muscle and tendon injuries

  • Decreased muscle tightness

  • Reduced muscle tension and post exercise soreness

  • Increased coordination

  • Decreased occurrence of muscle strains

  • Improved circulation

Don’t stretch till it hurts

The best way to stretch is to stretch to the point of tension, but never to the point of pain and never when cold — the best time to stretch is when you’ve warmed up. Take your time to gently and slowly move into your stretches, holding for 15 to 30 seconds while breathing deeply all the way through, while concentrating on keeping the area you’re stretching relaxed.

Why not do a couple of stretches first thing in the morning before the start of each day; or whenever you feel stiff and need to release some muscle tightness.

If you’d like to increase your flexibility, a 20-minute stretching session 2-3 times per week is recommended. However, make sure you do a thorough warm up before doing this.

Don’t forget after any physical activity to do a cool down, perhaps a 2-3 minute light jog or a walk followed by 5-10 minutes of stretching. A cool down helps prevent muscle soreness and stiffness and helps flush out muscle waste products.
