Prince William considering Australian honeymoon

William, Prince of hearts

Prince William in Queensland yesterday

Prince William and Kate Middleton are reportedly considering honeymooning in Cairns after the 28-year-old prince toured flood- and cyclone-damaged areas of Queensland on the weekend.

While visiting towns ravaged by Cyclone Yasi, William revealed his love of scuba diving, and named the Great Barrier Reef as a possible honeymoon destination following his wedding to Kate next month.

“I love scuba diving,” William told the UK’s Daily Telegraph.

“I have always wanted to dive the [Great] Barrier Reef. I will have to come back. Maybe we’ll have a honeymoon in Cairns. It’s much nicer down here. The weather at home is dreadful.”

William is due to wed Kate on April 29 in London’s Westminster Abbey. Several destinations are rumoured to be in the running for the couple’s honeymoon, including Kenya, where William proposed, Wales, where the couple have a home, the Maldives and Scotland.

Regardless of whether William and Kate choose Australia for their honeymoon, the prince promised the cheering crowd he would be back with his new bride “in a few weeks”.

William is due to visit flood-damaged towns in Victoria today, before flying back to London. He began his five-day visit to Australasia in New Zealand last Thursday. He toured areas affected by the Christchurch earthquake and last year’s Pike River mine disaster.

Rebecca Gibney reveals: ‘I finally feel beautiful’

Rebecca Gibney reveals: 'I finally feel beautiful'

The TV favourite opens up about a deeply personal battle which once saw her plunge into despair.

Whenever friends phoned to inquire what she was up to, the consummate performer found herself doing what she could do best – acting through the pain. And certainly no-one would have been aware Rebecca could head out the front door, her perfect “mask” firmly in place, only after taking a Valium pill.

Some 15 years later, the happily married mother-of-one has revealed to Mindfood magazine she is now in a very different head space. At 46, having tackled her private demons and memories of a profoundly traumatic childhood, the Packed To The Rafters favourite has found a new level of contentment – an emotional equilibrium she once never thought possible.

Although Rebecca does still suffer from the occasional panic attack, she knows what to do when they strike. As for the bouts of depression, they appear to be well and truly in her past. Through it all, the beautiful blonde has learned not to take anything in life for granted.

“When you’re in a black hole, when you’ve been in the pit, you don’t want to go back there. And I’m so glad that rage is gone… that intense rage,” Rebecca reveals during a stunning photo shoot for this month’s issue of Mindfood.

Pauline Hanson’s kids reveal: ‘Mum is so embarrassing!’

Pauline Hanson's kids reveal: 'Mum is so embarrassing!'

Pauline Hanson’s most ardent followers, her children, reveal that behind the passionate politician is a fun-loving mum who makes them cringe with her karaoke.

But it isn’t the fiery redhead’s outspoken politics and controversial persona that leave her four kids cringing. Instead, the 56-year-old former fish-and-chip shop owner reveals they turn decidedly red-faced when she takes centre stage for less-political purposes.

“There was one time when we were at an Irish pub on the Sunshine Coast and we were with some friends who wanted me to get up for karaoke,” Pauline tells Woman’s Day. “I had no choice in the end because they announced me and everyone else at the pub was like, ‘Yes, let’s get Pauline Hanson up’ – so I had to do it. But afterwards, [my daughter] Lee said, ‘I was just so embarrassed, I was sitting there thinking, Oh, my mum, what’s she doing up there?’. “I didn’t even know the song at the time,” Pauline adds. “It was the Tina Turner song, Nut Bush Cracker… what is it?… Nutbush City Limits? See, I still don’t know!”

There’s a collective groan from Pauline’s children – sons Tony Zagorski and Steven Hanson, to her first husband Walter Zagorski, and son Adam and daughter Lee, to second husband Mark Hanson – as they relive the memory. According to Lee, 27, music and her mum can often be an embarrassing combination, and never more so than during her twirl on TV’s Dancing With The Stars in 2004.

“I remember Mum getting up and attempting to dance on live TV and me sitting there going, ‘Aww, no! Aww, no, Mum!’” she says. “When she’d get off she’d ask, ‘How did I do?’. I’d say, ‘Oh, you did really well’, but I’d be thinking, Don’t get up there and dance again next week. So of course she made it all the way through to the final!

*Biggest Loser*’s Jodie reveals: ‘My size was killing me’

Biggest Loser contestant Jodie reveals: 'My size was killing me'

Being eliminated from the weight-loss show is nothing compared to what she’s already been through.

Entering The Biggest Loser: Families house at almost 107kg, Jodie, 43, struggled with breathlessness and her life-threatening colon condition. Now, at home with her family, she insists being eliminated from the show won’t stop her charging towards a clean bill of health.

“I’ve finally realised you can’t put a price on life,” Jodie says. “I’d lost and gained so much weight before the show, I ended up with a twisted bowel. With all the yoyo dieting, the bowel wrapped around itself. My stomach was so bloated I looked pregnant.”

She underwent keyhole surgery to treat the painful condition and was confident she was recovering after an uneventful week of convalescing at home with her husband, Alfred, and two sons, Kurtis, 13, and Jordan, 10.

Then a routine trip to the bathroom turned terrifying. Jodie started suddenly bleeding heavily from the surgery site. “Blood started running out of me like a hose,” she recalls. “I thought, ‘I’m going to die. There is no way I can stop this bleeding’.”

Oprah Winfrey’s secret diaries

Oprah Winfrey's secret diaries

The star’s journals give a glimpse into her thoughts and her tumultuous life.

“I’ve been journaling since I was 15,” she writes in the latest issue of O: The Oprah Magazine. But it’s taken until now for Oprah, 57, to share such personal thoughts with the world.

“It’s a wonder that I’ve managed to be a successful human being considering how pathetic I appeared in many of my daily musings,” she says, reflecting on her handwritten entries. “It’s a testament to growth and grace that I’ve come this far… I used my journals as therapy. Oh, the time I wasted worrying about men and weight!”

Oprah certainly isn’t afraid to let readers see the vulnerability in her journals. She is shockingly honest about her love-life, with her insecurities laid bare in emotional entries. The most startling are from her twenties, in what Oprah describes as “my 3-D years, when I was delusional, in denial and damaged”.

During a tumultuous period in her life when she’s admitted to dabbling in drugs, she seems to spend every moment obsessing over men. In an entry dated May 17, 1981, she was in a difficult relationship and talks about how powerless her boyfriend makes her feel. “I want to die… I wish for something to put an end to this madness,” she writes.

Jennifer Aniston’s change of face

Jennifer Aniston's change of face

What is the real secret behind Ms Aniston’s ever-youthful appearance?

But was the new ’do simply a distraction from more subtle changes Jen, 42, desperately wants to keep secret? Our insiders say so.“She cut her hair and changed the shape a bit to distract attention from the changes she has made to her face in the form of injections,” claims one source close to the actress.

A trip to the salon is a common Hollywood diversion from plastic surgery, according to another insider, who says, “Celebs will change their hair colour and style to distract observers from changes they have made to their face.”

“With each passing year, combined with the fact she’s got less body fat than ever, Jennifer’s face had lost that youthful roundness,” our source says. Now, snapped at the Madrid premiere, super-slim Jen’s face suddenly appears noticeably fuller.

“She’s had [wrinkle filler] Radiesse injected in two key areas and Botox injected in another part,” claims our source (see right). “It’s strategically done to look natural, subtle, with no telltale scars that may trace back to surgery.” Adds Sydney cosmetic surgeon Dr Kourosh Tavakoli of Luxe Medispa, “This is commonly called a liquid facelift.”And that’s not all…

Kate Middleton’s bridal body blitz!

Kate Middleton's bridal body blitz!

The bride-to-be has dropped three dress sizes in preparation for the big day!

According to royal watchers, Kate has gone from an estimated size 12 at the time of her engagement announcement in November, to a petite size 8. Although these never-seen photos were taken in 2006, Kate’s friends say she’s looking every bit as sizzling hot as she did on this Ibiza holiday with Prince William.

“Kate has a fantastic figure,” says a friend. “It’s part genetics,” adds another, Bean Sopwith. It’s also thanks to a bridal boot camp that’s seen her revamp her diet and embark on regular exercise sessions.

The hard work is paying off – during a recent charity event, housewife Heather Lindsay couldn’t help but comment to Kate about her weight-loss.

“I told her not to lose any more weight,” Heather told a British paper. “And she said it was all part of the wedding plan.” According to insiders, Kate’s been trying a variety of workouts, as well as hitting her home equipment, which – like the late Princess Diana – she had installed to avoid photographs of her being taken in workout gear at a gym.

Running mum: ‘I ran around Australia!’

Running mum: 'I ran around Australia!'

Sarah Mycroft is the first woman to run continuously around Australia – and she did it with her children by her side.

When Sarah Mycroft set off to run around Australia she wasn’t sure what to expect. But 14,772km, 238 days and 15 pairs of running shoes later, it’s fair to say she’s had one heck of an adventure. And so too have two-year-old Austin and four-year-old Bonnie, who were at their mum’s side the entire time.

An experienced marathon runner, it had always been 32-year-old Sarah’s dream to run a lap of the country.

“I was 19 when I first dreamed up the idea,” says single mum Sarah, who lives on her organic farm just outside Tumbarumba in southern NSW. Last year she decided it was time to turn her dream into reality.

“I came across this old school bus for sale,” she says. “We took all the seats out and had it all converted. We put the kitchen in, some bunk beds, and made some little rooms at the back that had a corner bath, a proper flushing toilet and some carpet.

“It was a place the kids could call home.” Sarah knew she couldn’t do the journey on her own, so she advertised to find backpackers to accompany her on her trip, acting as support crew. The plan was to swap teams in every major city, picking up new friends along the way.

Mug featuring Prince HARRY and Kate Middleton launched

Mug featuring Prince HARRY and Kate Middleton launched

A souvenir company has made what could be an embarrassing gaffe, releasing a royal wedding mug featuring pictures of Kate Middleton and Prince Harry.

Guandong Enterprises launched the cup to commemorate the wedding of Prince William and Kate, but used an image of William’s younger brother Prince Harry.

In pictures: Most amazing royal wedding dresses

The mug, which is purportedly crafted from the “finest bone china”, is advertised as “limited edition heirloom”.

“Commemorate the wedding of HRH Prince William and his stunning lady bride-to-be Miss Kate Middleton,” the company’s website reads.

While media outlets around the world are taking delight in the possible faux pas, the UK’s Daily Telegraph has looked into the mugs and suggests they might be part of an “elaborate spoof”. The paper reports that while Guandong Enterprises presents itself as a Chinese company, its website is “apparently registered in Britain”.

Whether the mug is a genuine mistake or an expensive practical joke, one can be yours for $15 plus shipping.

Meanwhile, Prince William has attended a national memorial service for the 182 victims of the Christchurch earthquake.

The royal passed on condolences from his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II and father Prince Charles at the ceremony, urging New Zealanders to “be strong”.

“Put simply, you are an inspiration to all people,” he said.

William arrived in New Zealand yesterday, and spent the afternoon meeting the families of the 29 victims of last year’s Pike River coal mine disaster.

He then flew to Christchurch to visit areas damaged by the earthquake and will fly to Australia to tour flood-ravaged towns in Queensland and Victoria tomorrow.

William is due to marry Kate Middleton in London’s Westminster Abbey on April 29. Earlier this week, the couple announced they wanted charity donations instead of wedding gifts. The Christchurch Earthquake Appeal is one of a list of charities the couple have chosen to include in their Royal Wedding Charitable Gift Fund.

How to win the savings battle

Is something always getting in the way of you and your saving efforts? Two words, term deposit.
Friends shopping for shoes, thinkstock

THE number-one enemy of saving is temptation, and something that can take temptation out of the equation is a term deposit. These high interest investments allow you to lock away a lump sum of money, which gathers interest for a fixed time period. This means that before you get your investment back, you’ll know exactly how much your term deposit can earn for you.

Term deposits shake up the mentality that you must save periodically to reach your goals, squirreling away spare cash in a savings account every week. Instead, term deposits are useful for people who enjoy having a low-maintenance savings product that they can rely on to deliver results.

For example, putting away $5000 in a 90-day term deposit will guarantee you about $73 in interest at maturity with RateCity’s best rate of 5.80 percent by ME Bank, no matter how much interest rates change after you deposit your money. While this gives you a lucky break when rates are declining, it also means you may miss out on rate rises.

You can even have multiple term deposits growing your money at the same time. Savvy savers can use this method to save for the short term, or even keep cash earning interest for years to meet your long-term savings goals.

And if you’re the impulsive type, term deposits give you an incentive to kick bad habits by charging interest rate penalties or fees when you withdraw your money early. This is why it’s important to make sure that your term deposit cash is something you can live without until you get it back.

Often competing with online savings accounts, term deposits can sometimes offer rates that you simply can’t pass up, so use your impulsive tendencies for good by comparing the highest rates and securing your investment.

After all, everyone indulges in buying themselves a present here and there, so why not make your next gift a savings miracle by letting your money take care of your future?
