Catherine Zeta-Jones ‘outed’ by other rehab patients

Catherine Zeta-Jones 'outed' by other rehab patients

Catherine Zeta-Jones was forced to admit to her mental illness after she was “outed” by other patients in her treatment facility.

The 41-year-old actress checked into psychiatric rehab facility Silver Hill Hospital in Connecticut earlier this month to treat her bipolar II disorder.

In pictures: Oprah’s five life lessons

Her 66-year-old husband, Michael Douglas, said Catherine had initially planned to keep quiet about her battle with depression, but felt obliged to speak up after other hospital residents started gossiping about her.

“I must say, Catherine’s being quite open about it because she was outed, you know,” Michael told the Oprah Winfrey Show.

“She went to go get some help and some other patient probably in there said, ‘Hey, you won’t believe who’s in here now.’ And, so, once that happens, I think she felt [it] best to kind of get out the story.”

Michael and Catherine’s marriage is widely regarded as one of Hollywood’s success stories, but the actor says they have had an extremely tough year. He was diagnosed with cancer, his eldest son Cameron, 32, was jailed for dealing crystal meth and his ex-wife Diandra Douglas is suing him for a portion of the profits he made from Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps.

Michael said his personal problems made it very difficult for Catherine to tell him she was unhappy.

“My oldest son is in federal prison, my ex-wife is suing me, and I got cancer. It’s kind of hard for the wife to say, ‘I’m depressed’,” he said.

“‘You’re depressed, huh? How about some cancer, you want to get depressed?'” the actor joked.

Michael said Catherine’s Welsh background also exacerbated her condition. While he just “got on with it”, Catherine bottled her emotions up before they became too much.

“When you’ve got cancer you’ve got to take care of business. They tell you you have seven weeks of chemo, radiation, you kind of dive in and do it,” he said.

“I’m the kind of person when they’re sick, I just curl up, I don’t like a lot of fuss and no attention. I just like to get on with it. So I got on with it.

“I think that part of Catherine’s whole background, she’s Welsh and the Welsh it’s all stiff upper lip, not let your feelings show.”

Michael and Catherine have two children, Dylan, 10, and eight-year-old Carys. He was declared cancer-free in January and he said Catherine is also better after seeking treatment.

“She’s great now, she’s shooting a movie and she’s relived she has a much better understanding because this was not something where she was clearly aware of what was going on,” he said.

Meet the heifer who thinks she is a horse!

Meet the heifer who thinks she is a horse!

This teenage wasn’t allowed to have a horse. No problem – she’s turned her cow into one!

Most 15-year-old girls have asked their parents for a pony at some stage – and many of them have been disappointed when told they couldn’t have one.

When Regina Mayer’s parents gave her that message, she refused to give up on her dream of horse-riding and show-jumping. Instead, the girl from southern Germany wandered out to her family’s dairy paddock, saddled up one of the cows, Luna, and decided to teach her to jump instead.

“She thinks she’s a horse,” says Regina proudly.

Regina and two-year-old Luna started off taking walks together, and then Luna adjusted to the riding saddle and stirrups. After six months she was happy to let Regina sit in her saddle for the first time.

The pair go on long rides through the countryside together, hurdling over makeshift jumps.

Luna understands commands such as “go”, “stand” and “gallop”, and has even been taking lessons from cow trainer Anne Wiltafsky, who explains, “Younger cows can jump really well.”

Leigh and Lara: Our biggest loser love story

Leigh and Lara: OUr biggest loser love story

Having dropped an amazing 90kg between them, Lara and Leigh are falling in love all over again, and dreaming of their wedding day.

Leigh Westren and Lara Whalan admit they had all but given up on their hopes of having a dream wedding – let alone the idea of Leigh carrying his beautiful bride across the threshold. Before they signed up for The Biggest Loser: Families, the young couple couldn’t even put their arms around each other to share a loving embrace. But that’s all changed now.

Not only are they enjoying their amazing new bodies after shedding a whopping 90kg between them, they are also falling in love with each other all over again. They have to, they point out, as they now barely recognise each other!

“Towards the end of my time in The Biggest Loser house, I was giving Leigh a cuddle, and said, ‘Oh my gosh, I feel like I am cheating on you with another guy!’” laughs Lara, 25, who weighed in at 107kg when she joined the show. “When you are hugging this figure that is all of a sudden skinny and muscly… I said, ‘Leigh, keep talking to me because this is weird!’”

The gorgeous couple can’t keep their eyes or hands off each other at the Woman’s Day photo shoot, and it’s easy to see why – they have never looked better.

“I brought my first pair of jeans!” Lara exclaims. “I was an eleven, but hopefully I am a size 10 now.”

As for her “spunky” boyfriend, who unlike Lara is still in the running for The Biggest Loser crown, she can’t stop gushing about his amazing transformation. “Leigh looks like he has just come froma Calvin Klein shoot,” Lara says, ogling him from across the studio. And Lara, who was eliminated in week 10 of the competition having lost a total of 40kg, isn’t the only one impressed – Leigh struggles to find the words to describe his girlfriend’s makeover and simply says, “Lara looks amazing.”

Miranda Kerr’s little Flynn in full bloom!

Miranda Kerr's little Flynn in full bloom!

Jetsetting couple Miranda and Orlando are clearly revelling in their role as proud parents.

Navigating one of the world’s busiest airports with a baby in tow would be a tad stressful for most new parents. But for jetsetting duo Miranda Kerr and Orlando Bloom, it’s child’s play.

Looking every bit the proud parents that they are, the genetically blessed pair shared intimate smiles and whispers, doting over their gorgeous three-month-old son Flynn Christopher Bloom at Los Angeles Airport while preparing to board a flight to New York last week.

Miranda has described Flynn – who was born on January 6 weighing a solid 4.5kg – as her “little ray of sunshine”, and his arrival has obviously brought her and Orlando even closer together.

Certainly, it seems that 34-year-old Orlando is in every sense of the word a hands-on dad. In fact, with the Pirates Of The Caribbean star carrying his precious son whenever he and his wife step out the door, there appears to be no need for a pram!

But the besotted papa, who, like Miranda, seems to have taken to parenthood with great enthusiasm, clearly wouldn’t have it any other way. “It’s awesome,” Orlando, who tied the knot with Gunnedah’s most famous export in July last year, recently said of parenthood. “I love being a father. It’s changed everything in so many ways. Miranda is an amazing mother,” he told Hollyscoop.

George Clooney turns 50!

George Clooney turns 50!

George Clooney, Hollywood’s hottest bachelor, just gets better with age. We celebrate the sexy silver fox’s half-century with a look back at his brilliant career and the loves of his life.

While it may seem like only yesterday that he turned up as the fresh-faced Dr Doug Ross on the long-running US medical drama ER, next month George Clooney will celebrate half a century on this earth.

Most people would consider their 50th birthday a major milestone, but this dashing star with the come-to-bed eyes and distinguished grey hair says it’s no big deal.

In fact, he doesn’t mind getting older. Not that it isn’t a surprise to him, mind you. “It’s an interesting thing to watch yourself grow older on screen,” George once told a British newspaper. “I was watching [his 2009 movie] Up In The Air and I thought, ‘Who’s the old grey-haired guy?’ I never wear make-up for movies, and it’s starting to show.

“It’s funny, because most male actors work with actresses who are considerably younger. But earlier on in my career I was working with a lot of actresses who were my age or older, so people always thought I was older anyway. Now I’m going through this thing with people thinking I’m about 60!”

Despite this, George insists he has no problems with seeing his craggy face on screen – and says he hopes he’ll continue to get the opportunity in the years to come.

“I’m kind of comfortable with getting older, because it’s better than the other option, which is being dead!” he says.

Prince William: My mum taught me how to love

Prince William will strongly sense his mother’s presence when he stands at the altar with Kate.

His mother’s voice, her guiding presence, her very spirit, will be at the forefront of Prince William’s mind as he stands at the altar of Westminster Abbey waiting for his beautiful Kate.

As two billion people witness the prince on his special day, so many will turn their thoughts to the woman who lovingly moulded his entire world – his precious mum, Princess Diana.

“I wanted to make sure my mother did not miss out on today and the excitement that we are going to spend the rest of our lives together,” William said as he prepared for his wedding.

William, 28, won’t be alone in his thoughts. Those joining him in the Abbey, and indeed, the millions who have watched images of his parents’ wedding replayed in the lead-up to the big day, will spare a thought for a mother who is not there to celebrate her son’s momentous occasion. She was his world, the hands-on mum who famously said, “I live for my sons. I would be lost without them.”

As it turned out, William was lost without her. But even in his most anguished moments after her death in 1997, he remembered the one thing she promised would bring him happiness – love.

“If you find someone you love in your life,” she told him, in one of their many mother/son chats, “then hang onto that love”.

You can see he has taken heed of those words, by the way he tenderly holds his Kate.

With an uber-chic vibe and a designer-clad clientele sporting a signature shine, it’s no wonder Kate Middleton has made Richard Ward’s salon her hairdresser of choice. We checked it out and got the latest tips on cut, colour and blow-dry.

Stylist and colour specialist Mario Charalambous says, “We recommend an in-depth consultation free of charge to assess your hair colour and any style changes before your first appointment.”

Maggie Hunt is the woman British royalty call upon when they want memorable make-up looks. Maggie created the look for the famous official engagement photograph of the late Princess of Wales taken by Lord Snowdon, featured on British stamps and in the press worldwide. Maggie gives us her tips on how to glow on your wedding day.

“I like to always bring out my brides natural beauty and play up her best feature. Everyone is so individual so I take care to create a unique look for all my brides. It’s not a standard look. However a palette of neutral eye shades and peaches, pinks and corals all work well together and compliment most complexions.”

Expert tip: “Wedding make-up should always be soft and pretty but most importantly it should make the bride feel beautiful,” Maggie says. “I would like to think that whoever does Kate’s wedding make-up will keep it natural and regal — It would be a shame to change it. She is such a natural beauty that you really just need to accentuate that beauty.”

Maggie Hunt is frequently asked to create looks for celebrities such as Kate Winslet, Rachel Weisz and Meryl Streep.

It’s easy to get a peaches and cream complexion with the experts at London’s Chuan Spa where ancient Chinese therapies and modern deluxe treatments leave you glowing from head to toe. Here are their expert tips on how to get the perfect bridal complexion.

The most important step is the initial consultation. “This is when we will decide exactly what the six-month program will be,” says Katie Henry, director of Chaun Spa. “The first two or three visits should be targeting problematic areas and deep cleansing — ridding the skin of impurities and targeting blemishes, dehydration and breakouts. We also will recommend an at-home skincare routine.”

Expert tip: “Don’t be a blushing bride — plan ahead and be a radiant one!” advises Katie Henry, Director of Chuan Spa.

Known as “The Brows” of the beauty industry, with a client list that includes Elle Macpherson, Gwyneth Paltrow and Meg Ryan, Vaishaly reigns supreme when it comes to eyebrow shaping.

“Before I give my clients a new brow look I spend some time looking at their facial expressions so I can assess what shape would best suit them. There are hundreds of different shapes that you can achieve to give a woman an instant eye lift and make her look 10 years younger,” Vaishaly says.

Expert tip: “Stop plucking!” Vaishaly says. “This breaks the hairs, causing the appearance of black dots under the skin causing a shadow. I prefer threading as it takes hairs out from the root.”

Sienna Miller, Emily Blunt, and Jemma Kidd have all had their nails filed to perfection by nail pro Trish Lomax. Here are her tips on prepping for your wedding day.

“The minute the engagement ring goes on, nails should be looking like individual jewels — filed, buffed and painted in rich, creamy shades,” Trish says.

Expert tip: “Once your dress is picked, start trialling different nail hues with an expert,” Trish says. “I also recommend regular manicures, and if you’re on a budget a good technician will show you how to maintain your nails at home.”

“It’s all about the bouquet when it comes to choosing your wedding fragrance,” says Yardley managing director Quentin Higham. “It is important for aromas to complement each other, so matching the fragrance to the flowers is ideal.”

Expert tip: “Some fragrances have qualities that can be beneficial for brides on their stressful wedding day,” he says. ” Lily of the valley provides a sense of security, while peonies are known for their calming and relaxing qualities. Roses, on the other hand, are uplifting — perfect for keeping brides positive and happy on their wedding day.”

The royal wedding guest list

Mates: Prince William and David Beckham

When Prince Charles and Princess Diana wed in 1981 they invited 3500 guests, But on April 29, Prince William and Kate Middleton will exchange vows in front of a much smaller guest list of 1600.

The pair decided to keep the long list of Europe’s royalty and dignitaries short, inviting only those they have a personal connection to, and extended an invitation to a few lucky celebrities as well.

First on the list is Sir Elton John, who initially said he wasn’t expecting an invitation.

“I think because of my relationship with Princess Diana, people automatically think I’m going to be invited,” he told Reuters.

“I’m not invited to the wedding. I would not expect to be invited to the wedding.”

But it seems his relationship with Diana is exactly what scored him an invite. Next to his name on the guest list, the official royal wedding website states “he performed at the funeral of the late Diana, Princess of Wales”.

The Beckhams join Sir Elton on the guest list due in part to their connection to Prince William through England’s 2018 FIFA World Cup bid. Madonna’s ex-husband Guy Ritchie is listed as a friend of William and Kate and Rowan Atkinson is listed as a close friend of Prince William.

There are a handful of Aussies on the guest list, including Prime Minister Julia Gillard, Governor-General Quentin Bryce and swimmer Ian Thorpe.

Ian and William became good mates following William’s visit to Australia in 2010. He has since supported Ian’s charitable organisation, Ian Thorpe’s Fountain for Youth, which focuses on improving health and education for children.

One-hundred lucky members of the public will also be chosen at random to attend the event.
