Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

The gossip magazines went into overdrive last week, as speculation Brad Pitt was planning to marry Angelina Jolie in a secret Saturday ceremony reached fever pitch.

Food and champagne were seen arriving at the couple’s $50 million French chateau, a marquee was erected in the grounds and Brad’s parents flew in from the US.

But the promised day came and went without news of the much-awaited nuptials.

Now, the local mayor Mickael Latz has revived hopes the wedding of the year will in fact take place, saying this Saturday (August 18) is likely the real date.

“It’s a far more likely date,” Latz, who is the mayor of Correns, told the UK’s Sunday Express.

Brad and Angelina announced their engagement in April after seven years and six children together.

They have remained tight-lipped about their wedding plans, but Chateau Miraval has long been suggested as a potential location.

It is thought the couple will wed in a private chapel in the estate’s grounds in front of a handful of guests and their children Maddox, 10, Pax, eight, Zahara, seven, Shiloh, five, and three-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

It will be Angelina’s third marriage — she was married to Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999 and Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003.

Brad was famously married to Jennifer Aniston when he met Angelina, and caused great scandal when he divorced her in 2005.

Pippa Middleton ‘devastated’ by ugly face taunts

Pippa Middleton 'devastated' by ugly face taunts

Pippa Middleton and Karl Lagerfeld, who said her face should be hidden.

Pippa Middleton’s confidence has reportedly been shattered by designer Karl Lagerfeld’s cruel comments about her looks.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister is said to be “devastated” by Lagerfeld’s public criticism of her face, which he said should be hidden.

In pictures: William can’t keep his hands off Kate

But while Pippa was shocked and humiliated by the comments, she is reportedly planning to keep a dignified silence for the sake of her sister Kate, who is keen to avoid scandal now she is a member of the royal family.

“Pippa’s devastated by Karl’s cruel comments,” a friend to the UK’sClosermagazine. “She’s always been confident about her looks.

“But she doesn’t want to retaliate and start a war of words. Her friends have tried to make her laugh about it as Karl is hardly a supermodel himself.”

Pippa — and her pert rear end — shot to fame when she wore a clinging white bridesmaid gown at Kate’s wedding to Prince William in April 2011.

The dress earned her the nickname ‘Her Royal Hotness’ but Lagerfeld publicly disagreed with this moniker last week, giving a damning appraisal of Pippa’s looks in an interview.

“Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy,” Lagerfeld said. “I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties.

“On the other hand, her sister struggles. I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”

Princess Mary’s family under siege

Princess Mary's family under siege?

A mystery blogger’s vendetta against the princess now cruelly targets her children.

Since Tasmanian-born Mary Donaldson married Frederik, Crown Prince of Denmark, her life has seemed like a modern-day fairytale. Aussie women want to be her and the Danish public have welcomed her as their own. But, sadly for Mary, there’s a downside to global adulation. Online bullies are taking aim at our princess — and their snide comments are as unfair as they are cruel.

Danish magazine Her & Nu has called out the nameless online author of Royal Danish Media Watch, whose bad-taste commentary of Mary’s life has left her supporters fuming. The female blogger slams Mary while “praising to the sky” Prince Frederik and, reports the mag, “The hatred has now expanded to include [Mary’s] children.” Among the “toxic opinions” is a nasty piece attacking not only Mary’s looks but her mothering skills.

“Madam has to show off — but what on earth is she showing everyone?” the blogger rages. “Old face, dead, fake hair and no maternal instincts. Fred looks completely disengaged. You would be too if you were married to that!” Referencing a recent family photoshoot in which Princess Josephine, 2, was too sick to participate, the blogger, who did not respond to the mag’s request for comment, snipes, “Josephine is not sick. She is just ugly. She is probably in a very unattractive stage and Mary can’t handle it!”

The site even takes aim at Mary’s best friend, Adelaide radio host Amber Petty, who was a bridesmaid at the royal wedding. “Mary is an egregious person of questionable character…by reinforcing her refusal to give up ‘best friendship’ with Amber Petty, noted skank, sell-out and anti-feminist,” the blog says. But Amber laughs off the comments.

Dannii Minogue: My year from hell

Dannii Minogue: My year from hell

The TV judge breaks her silence on surviving life’s hurdles in the spotlight.

Dannii Minogue is renowned in showbusiness for her positivity — but after her split from Kris Smith, a humiliating sex scandal with Simon Cowell and a serious health scare, you wouldn’t blame her for feeling a little defeated. But that’s not Dannii’s style. “I’m not a misery…other people have much harder stuff to deal with than what I’m going through,” the single mother to Ethan, 2, told UK Glamour magazine last week.

Opening up for the first time since Sweet Revenge: The Intimate Life Of Simon Cowell was published in April, the Australia’s Got Talent judge remained dignified, although clearly hurt by the memoir. “I haven’t read the book but I’ve been told about the excerpts that relate to me and the speculation about my private life,” the 40-year-old told the magazine.

“They looked very pleased with it all at their launch. I’m sure it makes for a great read and I wish them all the best.” The book, which alleges Simon and Dannii had “a few bonks and then it petered out” was another blow in what has been a tough year. A thyroid condition and nasty bout of appendicitis left her immune system shot to pieces.

“It was a scary time because I didn’t know what was wrong with me. I remember looking at Ethan in the cot and thinking, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to pick him up’ — I had that little energy. Now, for the first time in ages, I really feel like I’m back in my body. I have to take tablets every day for my thyroid and I have regular blood tests to monitor it, but I finally feel good again.”

Suri and Bella: Inside their different worlds

Palace fury as British MP reveals Kate's pregnant

In Tom’s desperation to win Suri’s favour, his first daughter has been left behind.

Tom Cruise has made sure daughter Suri has lived every little girl’s dream in the past week. The mini A-lister had the run of Walt Disney World in Florida, even getting a money-can’t-buy stay in the exclusive princess suite in Cinderella’s castle. Still reeling from his divorce and missing his gregarious six-year-old, it’s clear Tom only has eyes for Suri. In fact, it’s easy to forget he has two other children.

While Suri gets ferried around New York in a helicopter with Dad as he searches for a luxury house near to the Manhattan apartment she shares with mum Katie, Isabella and Connor have barely seen their father.”They’re out there on their own, fending for themselves,” a source close to Tom tells Woman’s Day exclusively.Like any 17-year-old boy, Connor appears to be relishing his freedom, hitting the club scene and hooning around town with gorgeous young LA party girls.

But Bella, 19, appears to be suffering the most from the lack of parental guidance. Her low-key life in a grimy one-bedroom apartment she shares with boyfriend Eddie Frencher, in the middle of dangerous downtown LA, is a far cry from the five-star hotels Suri stays in with her dad when he’s in town. And whenever Bella ventures out, it’s usually to wander aimlessly around her neighbourhood, stopping to pick up armfuls of junk food or takeaway.

“Bella is a little lost right now. She’s old enough to have the freedom, but she’s not very confident,” our insider explains. “When Katie fired her from her fashion house Holmes & Yang earlier this year, Bella lost some motivation. She’s just bored so she’s meandering around town with that guy [Eddie]. Tom allows it but it’s only because he’s too busy and really doesn’t have the time to look after anyone but himself and Suri.”

Katie’s crisis: Will I ever find love again?

Katie's crisis: Will I ever find love again?

After the triumph of her divorce, the reality of single life is shaking the actress to her core.

Just six weeks ago, Katie Holmes was riding high from successfully pulling off the most brazen divorce filing in Hollywood history. But now the buzz is wearing off, and the realisation that she’s a single mum who’s made an enemy of one of the most powerful, mysterious and charismatic men in showbusiness — and Scientology — is slowly sinking in.

“Katie foresaw a golden future for her and Suri, free of Tom and Scientology,” a close friend tells UK Grazia. But those high spirits have quickly vanished, leaving Katie suffering a crisis of confidence — and wondering whether she’ll ever find love again.

Despite Katie being approached by plenty of men for dates, a close friend tells Woman’s Day exclusively, “She’s nervous of attracting guys for all the wrong reasons. She’s afraid guys will take advantage of her celebrity status, and she’s worried some men will spend all their time asking her about Tom. And, naturally, she’s scared of being trapped in another controlling situation.”

“Katie won’t have anticipated that she would suffer from a complete lack of self-confidence, and what it would actually feel like not being Mrs Tom Cruise,” adds an insider. “It’s like she’s struggling to maintain her identity while balancing work and keeping Suri grounded.” Now 33-year-old Katie has reportedly enlisted a confidence coach she knew her before she met her ex-husband.

Our amazing golden girls!

Our amazing golden girls!

It was Australia’s finest female athletes who led the Gold rush in London, while Stephanie Rice won a heart.

They formed an unbreakable bond when they beat the odds to grab Silver on the same day in Beijing four years ago. And now, on one unforgettable day in London four years later, hurdler Sally Pearson and cyclist Anna Meares rose to the very pinnacle of their sports when they became our remarkable golden girls.

For Sally and Anna, the euphoria of their dual Olympic triumphs was made all the greater because they shared it together. “For me and Anna, it’s just fantastic,” says Sally, who describes the 28-year-old cyclist as a “true inspiration”. “Everyone should look up to her [Anna] as I do…I feel so proud to be Australian right now.” Sally, 25, who won Gold in the 100m Hurdles just hours after her friend claimed Gold in the Women’s Sprint final, says the victory is simply a “dream come true”.

The admiration is clearly mutual. Anna reveals that she is in awe of Sally’s focus and determination to be the best she possibly can be in her chosen sport. The ecstatic pair ran into each other’s arms to share a huge hug and lots of laughter as they soaked up the emotion-charged atmosphere following their life-changing victories. Certainly, on their roller-coaster rides to Olympic Gold, Sally and Anna learned to take nothing for granted.

Four years ago in Los Angeles, Anna came perilously close to losing her life when she broke her neck in a horrific cycling accident at the World Cup. But nothing was going to prevent Anna – who began cycling competitively at age 11 and first won Gold at the 2004 Athens Olympics – from returning to the sport she loved. Just months later, the cycling powerhouse had qualified for the Beijing Olympics. “I knew what it felt like to represent Australia. I knew what it felt like to win a gold medal. I wanted that again,” Anna has previously told Channel 7.

Heroines in hijabs: Lauded in London, condemned at home

Heroines in hijabs: Lauded in London, condemned at home

Saudi Arabia's Sarah Attar running the women's 800m heat at the London Olympics.

They finished last and by a considerable margin, but Sarah Attar and Wojdan Shaherkhani got a standing ovation for being in London at all.

Sarah, 19, and Wojdan, 16, are the first women to compete for Saudi Arabia at the Olympic Games.

While their sporting achievements didn’t win them any medals — Sarah came last in her 800m heat and Wojdan was defeated in her first judo match in a record 82 seconds — they were instant crowd favourites, receiving some of the biggest cheers of the Games.

But while they were praised in London, the girls have faced hatred and criticism at home.

Women and girls are banned from playing sport in Saudi Arabia. Even going for a jog down their street could get Sarah and Wojdan arrested.

Weeks before the London Games began, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) succeeded in pressuring Saudi Arabia to lift the ban on female athletes.

The IOC’s announcement that Sarah and Wojdan would be competing was met with outrage from many conservative commentators.

One dubbed Sarah and Wojdan the “Prostitutes of the Olympics”, a moniker which quickly became a widely-used Twitter hashtag.

The extreme criticism was opposed by many other users of social network but despite this, most Saudi Arabian media outlets refused to report Sarah and Wojdan’s performances.

For their part, Sarah and Wojdan are trying to ignore the negative comments. They hope that they are the start of a female sporting revolution in the Middle East.

“This is such a huge honour and an amazing experience, just to be representing the women,” Sarah said after her race.

“I know that this can make a huge difference. To make that first step for women is just the most amazing feeling ever.”
