Parents attack ‘trampy’ Target girls’ clothing

Parents attack 'trampy' Target girls' clothing

Target hotpants designed for seven-year-olds which parents complain "barely cover a girl's bottom".

Thousands of angry parents have called on Target to stop selling children’s clothing that makes young girls look like “tramps”.

The retailer’s Facebook page has been flooded with more than 2500 comments complaining its clothing line for girls aged 7 to 14 is “age-inappropriate” and designed for “little hookers”.

Primary school teacher Ana Amini — who has an eight-year-old daughter — kicked off the social media storm when she complained about the retailer’s sexualised clothing on the weekend.

She wrote: ”Dear Target, Could you possibly make a range of clothing for girls 7-14 years that doesn’t make them look like tramps … You have lost me as a customer when buying apparel for my daughter as I don’t want her thinking shorts up her backside are the norm or fashionable.”

The post received more than 44,000 likes and 2300 comments before it was removed from the site. But taking down the post was not enough to stop hundreds of other parents complaining about the issue.

“Come on Target. Turn this negative into a positive and bring out a range of age appropriate Tween clothes too. I’m so frustrated that I cannot buy a pair of shorts for my 12-year-old that don’t just cover her bottom … and please stop putting writing across the back of young kid’s pants. You must be able to see that this is so inappropriate. The last thing I want to do as a parent is to draw attention to her like that,” Sandra Lammas wrote.

David Clark added: “Seven onwards is an awful range. Too adult although that said not many adults get about in those clothes either. Little girls need normal gear too, they also run about, ride bikes and do the same active stuff boys do and you can’t do all that in a ‘little hooker’ line of clothes.”

Last night, Target posted a reply to the complaints defending its range, saying all products on sale had been approved by a panel of customers.

“We always appreciate your feedback on our childrenswear range,” the post read. “In most cases, before products are available at Target, they are reviewed and assessed by a panel of our customers and their feedback is incorporated into our design decisions.

“We know there is a huge diversity of opinion when it comes to children’s clothing which is why we believe in taking great care in ensuring that our range is both age appropriate and something that your kids will love.”

Students given breastfeeding lessons with bizarre puppets

Students given breastfeeding lessons with bizarre puppets

The bizarre puppets used to teach breastfeeding to schoolchildren.

Girls as young as 14 are being given breastfeeding lessons as part of a controversial new programme in UK high schools.

Bizarre puppets and knitted breasts were used to teach 40 students at Liverpool’s Litherland High School how to breastfeed and express milk.

The girls — aged 14 to 15 years old — were also taught about the nutritional benefits of breastfeeding and why it was superior to bottle feeding, which is generally preferred by teen mothers.

But while the advice is undoubtedly sound, the class sparked outrage in the local community.

Many critics questioned why such young girls needed to know about breastfeeding and said this was yet another example of children being sexualised.

“Teach them how to respect themselves, how to say NO and how to keep their legs closed, along with teaching them to read and write!!” one wrote on the Liverpool Echo website.

Another pointed out that as the age of consent in the UK was 16 and the average age women had their first child was 28, there was no need to teach such young girls mothering techniques.

But others welcomed the move, saying all teens should be taught basic life skills.

“This should be taught alongside other aspects of parenting, budgeting and general life skills,” one reader wrote. “Perhaps learning the realities of life will encourage some to wait until they are ready to start a family and break the cycle of bad parenting so many young people are trapped in. After all if you have not been properly parented yourself how can you be expected to know how to care for your own child.”

“I don’t think that teaching girls how to breastfeed will encourage them to get pregnant, in the same way that teaching them food tech doesn’t make them want to cook their own dinner all the time,” another wrote. “There is no harm in informing teenagers for the future, especially with something like breastfeeding which tends to be seen as unnecessary and old-fashioned by a lot of young people.”

For the young people at Litherland High School, the message that “breast is best” definitely got through.

Teacher Sheila Bradshaw said most of the girls completely changed their opinion on breastfeeding.

“Beforehand only a minority of students said they would consider breastfeeding in the future but by the end of the presentation a significant majority said they would,” Bradshaw said.

Vanessa Paradis speaks about split from Johnny Depp

Vanessa Paradis speaks out about her split from Johnny Depp

Actress Vanessa Paradis has spoken for the first time about her split from partner of 14 years Johnny Depp.

In an interview published in the summer edition of French Elle magazine the 39-year-old, who is currently promoting her new movie Cornouaille, opens up just a little when asked about Johnny, 49, and the break-up.

“I don’t want to talk about him,” she says.

“Who said that artists should sell their soul, expose everything about themselves? It’s my duty to promote this movie, and my albums, but can you imagine what it feels like to see people making a business out of your pain.”

“What’s happened to us is our concern.”

Although she didn’t want to talk about Johnny, she does reveal how she feels about the situation.

“I don’t have the recipe for happiness, but I think the engine is simply having the desire,” she says.

“It’s not feeling obliged or forced or repeating yourself.

“I hate, for example, whenever you hear someone say: ‘You have work at being a couple’. No, you have to want to be there. And for me, I want to be right where I am right now.”

The working mum of two says she will continue to divide her time between the US and France with her and Johnny’s children Lily-Rose, 14, and Jack, 10.

Steve Hooker a ‘disappointment’ says official

Steve Hooker a 'disappointment' says official

Steve Hooker reacts to a failed attempt in the pole vault final.

Just four years after he was declared a national hero in Beijing, Steve Hooker has been branded a “disappointment” by his own boss.

Athletics Australia President Rob Fildes has declared the pole vaulter the biggest frustration of the London Olympics, saying his failure to perform was disappointing no matter how you looked at it.

“He is a disappointment,” Fildes told the Sydney Morning Herald. “I am clear in that. From my point of view he is a disappointment.

“You can’t have the Olympic champion, world champion, Commonwealth champion and see him no height and not be disappointed. I am an open bloke. I am disappointed. I am more than disappointed.”

Fildes said the Australian track and field team lacked the “hunger” for gold that many other country’s athletes had.

He said the majority of our athletes were happy just to make the team, and weren’t trying hard enough to win.

“The middle to top range of athletes haven’t quite been able to step up from their world championship performances and we’ve under-performed with the bulk of our distance runners, with no-one making a final,” Fildes said.

“And the throwers … that’s the thing that is disappointing from my point of view. There weren’t enough of our team lifting themselves above the ordinary.”

Fildes comments are likely to outrage Australian sports fans. Twitter and Facebook have been flooded with complaints about the pressure put on athletes to win and accusations that the media treats anything less than gold a failure.

Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt

The gossip magazines went into overdrive last week, as speculation Brad Pitt was planning to marry Angelina Jolie in a secret Saturday ceremony reached fever pitch.

Food and champagne were seen arriving at the couple’s $50 million French chateau, a marquee was erected in the grounds and Brad’s parents flew in from the US.

But the promised day came and went without news of the much-awaited nuptials.

Now, the local mayor Mickael Latz has revived hopes the wedding of the year will in fact take place, saying this Saturday (August 18) is likely the real date.

“It’s a far more likely date,” Latz, who is the mayor of Correns, told the UK’s Sunday Express.

Brad and Angelina announced their engagement in April after seven years and six children together.

They have remained tight-lipped about their wedding plans, but Chateau Miraval has long been suggested as a potential location.

It is thought the couple will wed in a private chapel in the estate’s grounds in front of a handful of guests and their children Maddox, 10, Pax, eight, Zahara, seven, Shiloh, five, and three-year-old twins Knox and Vivienne.

It will be Angelina’s third marriage — she was married to Jonny Lee Miller from 1996 to 1999 and Billy Bob Thornton from 2000 to 2003.

Brad was famously married to Jennifer Aniston when he met Angelina, and caused great scandal when he divorced her in 2005.

Pippa Middleton ‘devastated’ by ugly face taunts

Pippa Middleton 'devastated' by ugly face taunts

Pippa Middleton and Karl Lagerfeld, who said her face should be hidden.

Pippa Middleton’s confidence has reportedly been shattered by designer Karl Lagerfeld’s cruel comments about her looks.

The Duchess of Cambridge’s younger sister is said to be “devastated” by Lagerfeld’s public criticism of her face, which he said should be hidden.

In pictures: William can’t keep his hands off Kate

But while Pippa was shocked and humiliated by the comments, she is reportedly planning to keep a dignified silence for the sake of her sister Kate, who is keen to avoid scandal now she is a member of the royal family.

“Pippa’s devastated by Karl’s cruel comments,” a friend to the UK’sClosermagazine. “She’s always been confident about her looks.

“But she doesn’t want to retaliate and start a war of words. Her friends have tried to make her laugh about it as Karl is hardly a supermodel himself.”

Pippa — and her pert rear end — shot to fame when she wore a clinging white bridesmaid gown at Kate’s wedding to Prince William in April 2011.

The dress earned her the nickname ‘Her Royal Hotness’ but Lagerfeld publicly disagreed with this moniker last week, giving a damning appraisal of Pippa’s looks in an interview.

“Kate Middleton has a nice silhouette and she is the right girl for that boy,” Lagerfeld said. “I like that kind of woman, I like romantic beauties.

“On the other hand, her sister struggles. I don’t like the sister’s face. She should only show her back.”
