Beyonce and Jay-Z buy Blue an $80,000 birthday present

Beyonce and Jay-Z buy Blue an $80,000 birthday present

Most little girls would be delighted to get a regular Barbie doll for their birthday, but when you’re the daughter of Beyonce and Jay-Z, you can expect a tiny bit more.

The megastar couple have sung in Blue Ivy’s first birthday by giving her an $80,000 jewelled Barbie doll.

UK newspaper The Sun reports the custom-designed doll is encrusted with 160 diamonds and comes with white gold jewellery.

Blue’s proud parents spent weeks planning her lavish princess-themed birthday, ordering in over $90,000 worth of white and pink roses to decorate the New York venue.

Little guests tucked into a $2000 cake and were treated to party bags filled with more than $30,000 worth of accessories and toys, including jewellery sets, princess costumes and playhouses.

Their parents didn’t walk away empty-handed either. They were given luxury goodie bags with sought-after concert tickets and gold pens engraved with their name as well as Blue Ivy’s.

“Nothing’s been too big or expensive for their little princess. They wanted her first birthday to set the tone for the rest of her life,” a source close to the couple says.

“They work hard for their money and the first thing they want to spend it on is their baby girl.”

Hugh breaks down: My dad has Alzheimer’s

Hugh breaks down: My dad has Alzheimer’s

Hugh Jackman, his dad Chris Jackman and step-mother Elizabeth Jackman.

The Aussie actor is living every family’s worst nightmare.

It should be the time of Hugh Jackman’s life. Riding high on the success of his blockbuster musical film Les Miserables, the hugely popular Aussie actor is at the peak of his career – with buzz that he’s about to win his first-ever Academy Award.

But behind the ever-present charming smile that fans across the globe have fallen in love with, 44-year-old Hugh’s been grappling with a devastating family secret. His beloved dad Chris, who he describes as “my hero, my rock”, is in the advanced stages of Alzheimer’s disease – an incurable, terminal form of dementia. In a revealing interview with theatre trade magazine Parade, Hugh reveals private details about the cruel disease that is tearing apart his family.

“My dad is fairly well into Alzheimer’s now,” Hugh explains. “His short-term memory is pretty much gone.” But he is taking comfort in the fact that it’s not all bad news. “He still recognises me and can talk about the past, and weirdly, he’s as happy as I’ve ever known him, which is wonderful.” Hugh reveals that throughout his Les Mis experience, in which Hugh plays the starring role of Jean Valjean, it’s been Chris – who raised him as a single parent when Hugh’s mother walked out on the family when Hugh was just eight – not that little gold Best Actor Oscar statuette, on his mind.

“There are many qualities about my dad, actually, that echo Valjean more than me,” Hugh tells Parade. “My father has never said a bad word about anybody… He’s a hard worker, very humble, and deeply religious. “Everything about him is admirable… If there are any good qualities about me, I give [credit] largely to my father.” Hugh knows that as Chris’s disease progresses, he and his family – including wife Deborra-lee Furness and children Oscar, 12, and Ava, 7 – are facing an emotional road ahead.

Kim Kardashian’s body panic

Kim Kardashian's body panic

She has barely reached the second trimester and already the reality star is waging war against baby weight.

She may have one of the most envied bodies on the planet, but shapely Kim Kardashian is the first to admit she has her fair share of body insecurities. “It’s a constant struggle,” Kim, 32, has lamented of her efforts to keep her famous curves tight and toned. “My thighs are jiggly and I have cellulite.”

Now that she’s 14 weeks pregnant, Kim knows her weight war will only get harder – especially as the cravings have hit! “She’s already gained about 4kg thanks to cravings for chocolate and ice-cream,” a friend tells Closer magazine. “She’s said that she can barely contain her chest as she’s already gone up a cup size. She’s feeling as if she’s bursting out of her clothes.”

Her boyfriend, rapper Kanye West, 35, insists he loves her curves – but before she found out she was pregnant, Kim confesses she was already trying to shift the 11kg of “love junk” she’d gained in eight months of dating him. “I’m hoping to slim down, I’m not afraid to say it,” she told Life & Style magazine in October. “Everyone goes up and down in whatever that comfortable relationship phase is where you like to eat out. Now it’s time to get it together.”

After seeing how quickly her body can get out of control if she succumbs to her cravings, Kim is bringing out the big guns. She has signed up Hollywood personal-training heavyweight Tracy Anderson to keep her body in shape. “Kim has signed up to two months worth of cardio classes, and she’ll be doing yoga and Pilates as her pregnancy gets into later stages,” a friend tells Heat magazine. “She doesn’t see pregnancy as an excuse for letting go.”

Why Orlando Bloom left

Why Orlando Bloom left

Hollywood hunk Orlando Bloom and Aussie super model Miranda Kerr got together in LA for their son’s birthday last week – then Orlando took off alone, doing nothing to dispel rumours their marri age is on the rocks.

For two years, they’ve been Hollywood’s poster family. A-list hunk Orlando Bloom marries wide-eyed Aussie beauty Miranda Kerr, resulting in the birth of their gorgeous son, Flynn, 2. But for the past few months, persistent whispers from their inner circle have hinted that Miranda and Orlando are on the rocks – and the whispers are growing louder by the day.

Those close to the couple tell Woman’s Day that despite the two falling so passionately in love when they met in 2007, they’ve sadly begun to grow apart, struggling to compromise their opposing views on everything from how to raise Flynn, to where they should live and how much of their life is in the public eye.

“Orlando’s getting much more introspective and private – last year he took down his Facebook account,” a friend of the couple, who has known them for years, tells Woman’s Day. In stark contrast, Victoria’s Secret Angel Miranda, 29, has ramped up her social networking, even posting saucy snaps of herself and intimate pictures of Flynn’s birthday party on her Instagram photo-sharing page. “Orlando doesn’t like it. I don’t think he would be remotely happy with her sharing pictures of herself in sexy Santa costumes,” says our source.

“It’s very different to her Victoria’s Secret pictures because they’re defined shoots, but this blurs the lines.” However, if you ask Miranda, posting racy and private photos is all in the name of her career. “She feels she needs to do this to keep up her profile,” says our source. “He isn’t the kind of guy who’s going to put his foot down and forbid Miranda from doing anything, but he isn’t very happy about it.”

Scientology’s strangest secrets revealed

Scientology’s strangest secrets revealed

A controversial new book reveals stories that Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise would never want you to know.

Many stories have surfaced over the years about Tom Cruise’s bizarre Scientology behaviour – but none are more bewildering than reports in a groundbreaking new book that blows the cover off the controversial religion. In Going Clear: Hollywood, Scientology & The Prison Of Belief, Pultizer Prize-winning journalist and author Lawrence Wright alleges that under Scientology teachings, Tom would spend hours in the parking lot of a Home Depot hardware store in Hollywood, trying to read people’s minds.

In Scientology speak, Tom, 50, allegedly believed he was doing “Tone Scale” drills, which involved “guessing the emotional state of random people coming out of the store”. In an interview with Lawrence, ex-Scientology second-in-command Marty Rathbun also reveals details of Tom’s Scientology audits, or psychological questioning, performed by the religion’s senior members including follower Jason Beghe.

“Jason would think of a hypothetical date, which Cruise had to figure out using the E-Meter, a Scientology device that measures a body’s electrical resistance by gripping two metal rods – a guessing exercise Cruise found really frustrating,” Marty explains in the book. Tom’s attorney denies the audit, but another former Scientologist, Marc Headley, claims that the tables were turned when Tom himself rose up the religion’s ranks and became an auditor.

Marc, who was just 16 when he first met Tom, recalls how the Hollywood A-lister encouraged him to take bee pollen tablets before beginning another bizarre exercise. In it, Tom told Marc to repeatedly look at and touch the walls of the room for hours on end. Marc says Tom also asked him “to make an object – such as a desk – hold still or become more solid”.

Hugh Jackman triumphs at Golden Globes

Hugh Jackman Golden Globe award

Aussie favourite Hugh Jackman has taken out the Golden Globe award for best actor in a comedy or musical for his gallant portrayal of leading man Jean Valjean in the epic Les Misérables.

Jackman beat out nominees Jack Black, Bradley Cooper, Ewan McGregor and Bill Murray to win the category in which he was the heavy favourite.

Hugh gave a gracious and heartfelt speech as he accepted the award.

“Wow — thank you,” a seemingly surprised Jackman said as he took the stage at the Beverly Hilton hotel.

In his speech, the actor revealed early struggles he had in the role, suggesting he considered pulling out of director Tom Hooper’s adaptation of the film after disastrous rehearsals, but his supportive wife Deborra-Lee Furness talked him out of it.

“Three weeks before we started filming, we had a terrible day of rehearsal, a humiliating day,” he said.

He recalled saying to his wife “I have to ring (director Tom Hooper), tell him someone else should play the role. I’ve bitten off more than I can chew.

“My wife talked me off the cliff like she talks me (down) most days.”

He thanked an impressive list of colleagues on the film, but the greatest praise went to Deborra-Lee who he introduced to the audience as the most wonderful woman in the world.

“Baby, I will say it in front of the entire world — thank you for always being right, baby. I love you.”

The achievement boosts Jackman’s Oscar hopes, confirming him as the second favourite for the best actor award, behind Daniel Day-Lewis for his role in Lincoln.

Day-Lewis won the Golden Globe for best actor in a drama.

The Golden Globe Awards split the best actor category in two, but the Oscars will see the two winners go head-to-head.

The Golden Globe win follows a week in which Jackman was nominated for both an Oscar and a BAFTA award.

He was also the only Australian nominee to win his category, with fellow Aussies Nicole Kidman, Keith Urban and Naomi Watts all missing out.

The film that earned Jackman his golden moment, Les Miserables, took out the title for best musical or comedy film, and co-star Anne Hathaway was recognised for her role as Fantine, earning her the statue for best supporting actress.
