Katy Perry and John Mayer split – again!

Katy Perry and John Mayer split – again!

It’s all over – again – for John Mayer and Katy Perry!

The two, who started dating last June but split up for a month last August, have now called it quits a second time, a source told People magazine.

Katy, 28, and John, 35, had only recently been spotted arm-in-arm at the Grammy Awards, less than a month after John presented Katy with a large ruby ring on Valentine’s Day.

After their September reconciliation, the couple spent Christmas together, and John recently spoke about the pair’s relationship, saying that it was “very human” and even speculating on the idea of marriage.

But friends aren’t discounting yet another reunion: “It’s sad,” one source tells Us Weekly of the split, but adds. “It’s not over until it’s over. You have to see how things play out.”

Meanwhile, Katy’s ex-husband, comedian and well known womaniser Russell Brand, has claimed their brief marriage was doomed from the start.

The couple wed in an elaborate ceremony in India in October 2010 after a whirlwind romance. Russell filed for divorce in December 2011.

Joking around on radio with sidekick Matt Morgan and Oasis’s Noel Gallagher, Russell, 37, said: “Let me tell you a thing about marriage. Marriage is a bond that can last up to 14 months. This is a sacred 14-month arrangement. Begins on an elephant. Ends in a newspaper.”

“That marriage was shaky from the get-go, before I’d even got off the elephant.”

‘Why did I cry?’: A loving dad writes about his beautiful daughter with Down syndrome

'Why did I cry?': A loving dad on finding out his beautiful child was born with Down syndrome

Greg Jericho and his wonderful daughter Emma.

I’m not sure how most fathers react when they are told that their newborn baby has Down syndrome, but if I am anything to go by it involves crying for a week.

Six hours after the birth of our youngest daughter Emma we were told that she most likely had Down syndrome. The news wasn’t completely out of the blue — an ultrasound had revealed a slightly thicker nuchal fold, but there were no other indicators, and we were told the chances were about one in 200.

In pictures: Meet my beautiful child with Down syndrome

But when I had first held Emma in my arms I looked at her and saw only a wonderful (very small) girl. And so it was a shock to be told that she was being moved to the neonatal ICU ward and they were to run a series of tests — both physical and genetic.

And so I cried for a week.

Why did I cry? If I’m honest, mostly it was for myself. Emma was sweetly sleeping in the humidicrib unaware that there were any issues that should stop her from sleeping sweetly. She had no health problems — many newborns with DS do have issues with their heart and bowels, she didn’t. Other than needing help to keep warm due to her small size, she was happy and content.

But I was a mess.

I cried out of fear — fear that I wouldn’t be able to cope, and shamefully I worried I would forever look at her with a sense of disappointment. Like many fears it was based on a prejudice fostered by ignorance.

I had no idea what DS was, so I assumed the worst — that I’d never communicate with her, that she would spend her days inert and dull, that she could never learn, that she would not have her own desires and ambitions. These mistaken beliefs meant I stopped dreaming for my daughter.

In that first week I closed the book on a raft of possibilities for Emma, because based on my ignorance of Down syndrome I thought of Emma as a plural and not a singular.

My ignorance led me to assume not only were all my misconceptions accurate, but that all people with DS were the same — as though the addition of a third copy of chromosome 21 somehow subtracted the person’s individuality. Thus assumptions that “they can’t do” meant “Emma can’t do”.

Well I was wrong. Massively so.

Emma is an individual with her own personality and desire for independence. Far from being inert and dull, she is forever dashing here and there, ready to bounce for hours (hours!) on the trampoline, relax reading a book or helping bake biscuits, and is always determined to do things by herself. She took about 10 seconds to discover how to take photographs with my iphone. And when she laughs you cannot but laugh with her.

This February Emma began attending kindergarten at the local primary school. In this sense she is now a plural — she, like everyone else is expected to listen and obey the teacher. But like everyone else is an individual in the class.

‘You are my hero’: A mum’s letter to her baby with Down syndrome

Of course it is not all easy. But what child is? No one becomes a parent because they want to have a lot more spare time.

But far from my looking at her with disappointment, my heart leaps when she runs to me from her classroom at the end of each day.

I was right the first time I saw her — she is wonderful.

And when I hold her hand I am the proud one, as I dream of the things she might achieve.

Kate’s dodgy uncle reveals details of her relationship

Kate’s dodgy uncle reveals details of her relationship

The Duchess of Cambridge’s uncle has given a tell-all interview to a British magazine about her and Prince William’s private life.

Gary Goldsmith, who was dubbed the “black sheep” of the Middleton clan after he was caught selling drugs to an undercover News of the World journalist in 2009, has spoken to Hello!, revealing he organised an “action-packed” holiday for the pair in 2006 and would “of course” play a role in the upbringing of their first child.

“They all had the Ibiza experience – from mud baths to nightclub Pacha, to learning how to mix music,” he says of Kate and William’s visit to the Spanish party island. “Carole told me afterwards they had a brilliant time.”

Gary, 47, who is the younger brother of the Duchess’s mother, Carole, invited the magazine into the luxurious Ibiza mansion where the royal couple stayed. The property is on the market for around $8.75 million.

Gary, a self-made millionaire, says he found William “incredibly charming and engaging” and “a real gentleman”.

He also tells the magazine the royal pair have real chemistry.

“When I saw them together you actually just thought, even if he wasn’t going to be the king, they would make a great couple. They were very, very good together,” he tells.

In the interview, Gary also reveals details of the relationship Kate – who returned to holiday at Gary’s villa after her brief split with William in 2007 – has with her younger sister Pippa.

“’They are different. Kate works really hard at everything. She is brilliant at whatever she turns her hand to, but works at it, throwing herself into everything. Whereas Pip, everything seems to come very easily.”

It seems we haven’t seen the last of Kate’s uncle in the spotlight. He now plans on writing a book of his memoirs.

Crying kids blamed for parents’ failed relationships

Crying kids blamed for parents' failed relationships

Parents facing marriage breakdowns have cottoned on to a strategy practised by siblings of younger children all over the world — blame it on the baby.

A survey of 2,000 parents found that a third of those who had divorced or separated blamed sleepless or interrupted nights caused by crying children.

Parents of young children were found to get only six hours sleep a night — one hour less than recommended — and the resulting tiredness was found to be damaging to relationships.

The US research showed that a good night’s sleep improved a couple’s relationship by making them less selfish and more likely to be polite to each other.

“Poor sleep may make us more selfish as we prioritize our own needs over our partners,” University of Berkeley, California psychologist Amie Gordon said.

Eleven per cent of parents admitted to pretending to be asleep when their child woke up so their partner would have to deal with them, while another 11 per cent they would shut the door to block out the noise.

Beyoncé regrets losing her baby weight

Beyoncé regrets losing her baby weight

She’s dropped 25kg in just three months, but Beyoncé says she regrets the pressure she put on herself to lose her baby weight so fast.

The singer flaunts her slim and sexy body in the April issue of Shape Magazine, showing her dramatic weight loss after the birth of her first child, daughter Blue Ivy, now 14 months old.

The 31-year-old star says that while she was determined to get back her pre-pregnancy figure, she regrets putting herself into the position where she had to “get back in shape quickly”.

“I didn’t have a lot of time to lose the weight because I scheduled a show [in Atlantic City] three months after I gave birth, which I would never do again,” she tells the magazine.

Labelling herself as someone who is “not naturally thin”, Beyoncé reveals, “I am a person that has to work at keeping my body in shape.”

Crediting 80 per cent of her weight loss to cutting back on food, the Grammy Award-winner admits she followed a “very low-calorie diet” and had to give up her favourite food, pasta.

“I stayed away from red meat and ate a lot of fish, replaced pasta and rice with quinoa,” she says.

Although her meal plan was strict, Beyoncé was able to stick to it, with the exception of one cheat day a week.

“I always have breakfast, say, scrambled egg-whites, a vegetable smoothie, or wholegrain cereal with low-fat milk,” she tells.

“For lunch and dinner, I eat a lot of fish and vegetables. And throughout the day, I try to stay hydrated … I always treat myself to one meal on Sundays when I can have whatever I want. Usually it’s pizza, which is my favourite indulgence.”

But a strict diet isn’t the only thing Beyoncé relied on for results. She also burned off the kilojoules with dance workouts.

And despite her own weight loss, Beyoncé stresses that women should embrace their differences rather than place too much emphasis on what the scales show.

“Everyone is not supposed to be the same. Be healthy and take care of yourself, but be happy with the beautiful things that make you you,” she adds.
