Kim Kardashian out of control: I’ve gained 30 kilos

Kim Kardashian out of control: I've gained 30 kilos

Kim tweets pictures of herself at her slimmest and now at five months pregnant.

Pregnancy is putting her happiness and health under threat.

Ever since she was a little girl Kim Kardashian has dreamed of having a family of her own. But far from being swept away in the excitement of choosing bassinet and booties with boyfriend Kanye West, the reality star is miserable.

“She is seriously melting down,” a source tells US magazine Star. “She’s looking at old pictures of herself for literally hours at a time, pining for her pre-pregnancy body.”

The 32-year-old, who is five months pregnant with her first child, has made a career out of her famous curves. But after gaining 30kg, with her final trimester still to go, Kim is terrified being a mum will spell the end of her empire.

“Kim is desperate to stop gaining, but she can’t seem to get it under control,” says an insider. “She cries every day and she’s scared of how big she’ll get.” Despite hitting the gym daily, Kim’s long-held food issues are wreaking havoc on her body. “She’s waking in the night and binge-eating,” the source tells Star.

Kate reveals: I’m having a girl!

Kate reveals: I'm having a girl!

Five months into her pregnancy, Kate lets slip her biggest secret.

As mum-to-be of the heir to the British throne, the Duchess of Cambridge’s pregnancy has played out in the most public way. But despite the world’s eyes being trained firmly on her growing bump, she and husband Prince William were able to share a delicious secret no-one else could possibly know. That was, until Kate’s adorable slip of the tongue last week, when it appeared she accidentally confirmed they were having a baby girl.

Sandra Cook, among the throng of 2000 fans who greeted Kate in the British town of Grimsby, was right next to Kate when she apparently let the cat out of the bag. “The lady next to me gave her a teddy bear and I distinctly heard her say, ‘Thank you, I’ll take that for my d…” Then she stopped herself,” Sandra explains to the Daily Mail. “I leaned over to her and said, ‘You were going to say daughter, weren’t you?’”The usually cool-under-fire Kate was visibly rattled, and attempted to deflect her gaffe with a laugh. But it was too late. “She replied, ‘No! We don’t know!’” says Sandra. “I said, ‘I think you do!’”

Then Kate appeared to contradict her insistence that she didn’t know the gender, exclaiming to Sandra, “We’re not telling!” But Sandra is convinced. “I’m certain it’s a girl. She wouldn’t have said the D-word otherwise. After she said it, she was a little flustered.” It’s not the first time Kate has accidentally revealed a family secret. Despite refusing to release the name of their puppy, Lupo, weeks later she spontaneously revealed the pooch’s name to a bunch of schoolkids.

While it’s palace protocol to keep the sex of royal offspring a secret until their birth, Kate’s awkward denial has been taken globally as confirmation that a little princess is on the way. Even if the secondborn is a son, a new law before the British parliament means if  Wills’ firstborn is a girl, she will one day be Queen.

Ellen and Portia: The look of love

Ellen and Portia: The look of love

The pair look loved-up as Oz gets revved-up for their arrival.

After eight years together and four-and-a-half of wedded bliss, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi still only have eyes for each other. The loved-up couple, now sporting matching haircuts, looked like teenage sweethearts running errands in LA last week.

It’s not hard to see why Portia fell for the comedienne-turned-talk show superstar. As these pictures show, she’s one chivalrous catch, opening the door of the couple’s Porsche for her gorgeous wife. ‘We were meant to be’ The couple can’t stop gushing about their fairytale relationship, with 55-year-old Ellen telling one US magazine, “We were just supposed to be together.” The star choked back tears on her show recently when she surprised Portia with a touching – and at times hilarious – 40th birthday tribute.

“You make me so happy,” she told her wife. “You’re amazing. I love ya.” For Portia, who publicly battled eating disorders, Ellen is her rock. “When I sit quietly and silently thank the universe for all the blessings in my life, I start with Ellen,” she writes in her memoir. “Ellen taught me to not care about other people’s opinions. She taught me to be truthful. She taught me to be free.”

Since exchanging vows in 2004, the couple still seem to be in their honeymoon phase, cutting an adorable figure as they hold hands and joke with each other, sporting matching shades, and big smiles.

Read more about Ellen and Portia’s love, plus find out how Portia will be welcomed back to OZ in this week’s Woman’s Day on sale Monday March 11, 2013.

Meet the man making Katie Holmes smile again

Meet the man making Katie Holmes smile again

It’s written all over her face -she’s finally happy! Meet the man responsible for it all.

It’ Katie Holmes as you haven’t seen her in years: blissfully happy, leaning in close to whisper to a handsome bloke, completely oblivious that every pair of eyes in New York’s Madison Square Garden is watching with avid interest. The actress could hardly find a more public place to be seen laughing and chatting with her new friend, and onlookers were soon abuzz with talk that she’d finally found a replacement for her ex-husband, Tom Cruise.

And in some ways, they were right. The dark-haired mystery-man, identified as her new agent, Adam Schweitzer, has become Katie’s go-to guy. Married Adam has become Katie’s new champion, taking her under his wing as she begins phase two of her post-Tom life. “She wants to distance herself from Tom and his Hollywood clout,” an industry insider explains, adding that it’s thought her links to Tom have made her unattractive to casting agents. “So she defected from her longtime agents at Creative Artists, where Tom is also a fixture, and signed with New York uber-agent Adam.”

A new beginning Insiders are describing the move as a stroke of genius after a disappointing year for Katie. “She was really upset when [Broadway show] Dead Accounts abruptly closed in January,” explains a friend. “She had high hopes for making a name as a Broadway actress but it never took off. And it’s not as if she’s been swamped with interesting offers. It’s thought that Tom has something to do with this. He only has to frown slightly for the Hollywood powers to try and second-guess what he’s thinking,” the friend claims.

And that’s where Adam, 36, has been Katie’s knight in shining armour. Once included in the list of the top 35 entertainment executives under 35 by industry bible The Hollywood Reporter, he now heads the agency’s motion picture division, representing the likes of Al Pacino and Christopher Waltz.

Elle Macpherson.

Just four months after splitting from her banker ex-boyfriend, Elle Macpherson is reportedly engaged to the new man in her life, real estate developer Jeffrey Soffer.

Elle, 49, first met Jeffrey, 43, in 2010 and they dated for two years before going their separate ways in March last year.

Elle promptly shacked up with banker Roger Jenkins, but they split in November and the supermodel rekindled her romance with Jeffrey.

Now, Access Hollywood reports the couple are planning to marry.

Jeffrey is based in Miami, Florida, and Elle is said to be relocating from London to move in with him.

It will be the second marriage for both.

Elle married US Elle creative director Gilles Bensimon when she was just 21, but they divorced three years later in 1989.

In 1995, she got engaged to financier Arpad Busson, and the pair had two sons, Arpad, 15, and Aurelius, 10, but they split in 2005.

We need to talk about post-natal depression

We need to talk about post-natal depression

Posed by model.

Several months after the birth of her baby, my friend was admitted to a facility for mothers with post-natal depression.

She stayed for a few weeks, her nearly one-year-old taken from her to help manage her feelings of utter helplessness and exhaustion.

Her treatment made things worse for a while: she was forced to wean her baby suddenly, and hit rock bottom, swallowing dozens of sleeping pills on a break from her rehabilitation.

But how did she get so down?

This was a woman who had never had any history of depression or mental illness, had never been anything but happy. Her baby was like any baby, waking through the night for milk and like most mums, my friend tended to her infant while her husband slept before his next working day.

Post-natal depression is frighteningly common: it’s estimated 1800 women in Australia are diagnosed with the condition every single day.

No one knows what causes it, but no doubt the lack of sleep and crazy hormones don’t help the situation.

I was reminded of my friend this week after reading this article, written by US model and TV presenter Vanessa Lachey.

She wrote about her shock when, two weeks into parenthood, she found herself unshowered, covered in baby vomit and feeling utterly helpless:

Vanessa says she perked up after a shower, and a drive alone, listening to the radio at full volume.

And seriously, that’s what can help. Ten minutes by yourself: with no one latching onto you, no one vomiting your milk back onto you, no one screaming at you.

Pretty much all new mothers (whether it’s their first or subsequent children) experience some form of baby blues described by Vanessa.

Becoming a new parent is bloody tough, for both mum and dad. While your lives are rocked by joy and love, they are also blasted with exhaustion and confusion at how to manage this new little person.

The story of my friend has a happy ending. With help, she began managing her endless fatigue, and her baby turned into a toddler who (largely) slept through the night. She spent months speaking with psychologists, and was gradually weaned off her anti-depressants. She and her family are doing just fine.

Still, more attention needs to be given to this issue. While most mums experience the blues, it’s important the rest of us do our bit to help our friends’ transition to their lives as mothers. They need to be reminded that they are doing okay, that while life will never be the same, it’ll be just fine.

Your say: What did you feel like after having a baby? Did you feel down? What’s your best tip to a new Mum?

If you feel down, and have recently had a baby, help is available. Contact your local GP, or speak to a trained counsellor through PANDA (Post and Antenatal Depression Association Inc), phone 1300 726 306.

MKR: Just how real are Angela and Melina?

MKR: Just how real are Angela and Melina?

Just how real are the “Real Housewives” of MKR?

They’re known as the “Real Housewives” of MKR, but there’s nothing mumsy about domestic goddesses Angela Kennedy and Melina Bagnato. The outspoken besties have made a splash with their big hair and even bigger personalities. But while they may seem super high-maintenance, Angela, 37, and Melina, 31, insist looks can be deceiving.

“I’m happy to look my age,” says Angela. “I don’t want to look 20 when I’m 40. If I’m starting to really fall apart, I might need some surgery to pick it up – I don’t really know. But I haven’t got anything fake on me at the moment, apart from my eyelash extensions, and I like it like that.”

Stylist Melina, who has a 22-month-old son, Jordyn, with husband Scott, concurs. “Not interested [in surgery] right now. Never say never, but I’m not a big fan of it, because I’ve noticed there are a lot of women in Melbourne who do plastic surgery and they’re all starting to look related!” The feisty Melburnians insist they’re masters of their make-up kits.

“I set my alarm 20 minutes before my son wakes up every day so I know I’ve got time to have a shower, put on my perfume, tinted moisturiser, mascara and lip gloss,” Melina says. “I like to feel three things before I leave the house – sophisticated, fun and glamorous. My hair is usually the glamorous part,” she reveals, laughing. Angela, owner of a lash salon and mother to son Patrick, 3, says she has mastered “a 10-minute getting-ready look”. As for how they stay in such great shape while relishing their food, they explain that they “eat to enjoy rather than to indulge”.

Read more about Angela and Melina, PLUS more MKR plastic surgery secrets in this week’s Woman’s Day on sale Monday March 4, 2013.
