Murdered Kate Malonyay’s ex-boyfriend plunges to his death while being pursued by police

Murdered Sydney girl Kate Malonyay

The ex-boyfriend of murdered Sydney girl Kate Malonyay plunged to his death this afternoon after being chased by police seeking to arrest him.

Elliot Coulson leapt from 26th floor balcony of a luxury Gold Coast hotel this morning as homicide detectives were trying to get into his hotel room.

The tragic twist comes the same day police launched a murder investigation into Ms Malonyay’s death.

Paramedics found the 32-year-old was found dead at her Mosman home on Monday by police after she had failed to show up to work four days in a row.

Her death was treated as suspicious by police who said she was found with bruising on her body, and a neighbour said she was strangled though an autopsy failed to find a cause of death, the Daily Telegraph reports.

The murder victim is reported to have met Coulson about 18 months ago and broke up with him a few months ago over a “build up of things”, friends told the paper.

“A lot of what he said about himself to her was a lie,” one said.

“He would often say he was going away on “deployments” and then be spotted around Sydney.

The Marriott hotel at Surfers Marriot released a statement following Coulson’s death. He crashed through a metal awning landing in a water feature outside the hotel’s lobby.

“We can confirm that earlier today, we had an incident involving a guest death,” general manager Neeraj Chadha said.

“The police are conducting a full investigation into the matter and circumstances preceding the guest’s death.”

Ms Malonyay, a well-liked financer is mourned by friends and family. Her Facebook page has been flooded with tributes and her boss, Challenger CEO Brian Benari, said in a statement she would be sorely missed.

“All of Kate’s friends and colleagues at Challenger are deeply shocked and saddened by the news,” he said.

“Kate worked for Challenger for three years and was a much-liked and valued member of staff. Nothing was ever too much trouble for Kate. She will be remembered for her sense of humour, easygoing nature and professionalism. Our thoughts are now with her family.”

Isla Fisher: You can’t have it all, you shouldn’t want to

Isla Fisher: You can’t have it all, you shouldn’t want to

Australian actress Isla Fisher believes that women can’t have it all and shouldn’t want to when it comes to work and motherhood.

Talking to Gotham magazine, the mother of two said she had no hesitation taking time out from acting to raise her daughters with husband Sacha Baron Cohen, Olive, 5, and Elula, 2.

“I took three years off. It’s not like you’re taking a break and looking on IMDbPro to see your StarMeter falling. You’re doing the most important, incredible thing,” she says.

“When you come back in, the perspective has changed. I truly believe you can’t have it all and you shouldn’t want to.”

Isla, who will next star in Baz Luhrmann’s The Great Gatsby, is clearly still very passionate about her acting career, telling the magazine that working with the Aussie director was extraordinary.

“It was thrilling and terrifying. Given the caliber of the director and cast on Gatsby, I definitely felt out of my comfort zone. I did feel like I was going to be called out and sent home at some point — you always feel very insecure, at least I do,” she says.

“The set was like a playground of rich costumes [created by Baz’s wife, Catherine Martin] and colour and music and laughter.

“Everybody cares on a Baz Luhrmann film set because everyone is so effing grateful to be there.”

The 37-year-old also spoke of her relationship with her husband, whom she highly respects.

However, she says she would never have a comedic collaboration with him.

“Personally, I think we collaborate on enough behind closed doors,” she laughs.

“We’re working on some really important collaborations, and I think that’s more important.”

Hollywood’s new celebrity church

Hollywood's new celebrity church

O.T.O. is linked to “the wickedest man in the world” but that hasn’t stopped the rich and famous joining up.

First there was the sci-fi based Scientology, proclaiming the world is polluted by ancient alien souls. Then came Kabbalah, a mystical offshoot of Judaism that promises followers protection from “the evil eye” if they wear red string on their wrists. Now Woman’s Day can reveal the new religion sweeping Hollywood and quickly gaining celebrity followers.

The controversial sect Ordo Templi Orientis – commonly known as O.T.O. – is associated with occultist Aleister Crowley, who dubbed himself “The Great Beast 666” and was often described as “the wickedest man in the world”. Bizarrely, Hollywood’s young and famous are queuing up to follow his teachings. The king and queen of hip hop, Jay-Z and wife Beyonce, have reportedly been linked to O.T.O., as has Sir Bob Geldof’s daughter Peaches.

In fact, it’s believed the 24-year-old mother-of-one is among the sect’s most devoted followers. She’s even had “O.T.O.” tattooed on her arm inside a heart, and recently took to Instagram to urge her followers to “buy Aleister Crowley’s books on it, they’re not expensive and super interesting”.

Peaches, who is pregnant with her second child, explains that the religion “teaches you to seek out and follow your true path in life”. Her search for a religion began four years ago, when she dabbled in Scientology, following a painful split from her then-husband. “I felt like I needed a spiritual path,” she said. “I felt I was lacking something when I didn’t have faith.” Perhaps most surprising is Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman’s daughter Isabella’s hint that she could be interested in O.T.O., sharing a photo of her own Aleister Crowley-inspired tattoo, the Eye of Horus.

Read more about this bizarre church and see more of the celebrity followers in this week’s Woman’s Day on sale Monday April 22, 2013.
