Demi and Ashton’s new $10 million battle

Demi and Ashton finalise divorce after two years!

They split in November 2011, but Ashton Kutcher and Demi Moore are still trying to complete their divorce proceedings, with Demi reportedly wanting $10 million of her estranged husband’s fortune.

“Ashton and Demi are still not divorced, and no settlement has been agreed, even though they have been in negotiations for over a year,” a source told the New York Post.

“Ashton made a lot of money after they married, but he doesn’t believe he owes her as much as she is asking for.”

The pair, who were married for six years, did not have a pre-nuptial agreement and are now battling for as much as they can get. Demi is seeking financial support from Ashton.

The latest disagreement is over Ashton’s share in A-Grade Investments, a venture set up with Madonna’s manager Guy Oseary and billionaire Ron Burkle to invest in tech start-ups.

Earlier this month, Ashton and Guy announced that the venture was worth $100 million and that the pair were raising money from outside investors.

“Ashton set up A-Grade with Oseary and Burkle in 2010, when he and Demi were still together, but he recently told her lawyers the fund had not made substantial money. In fact, he claimed he had only put about $1 million into it,” the source said.

“Now it seems Ashton and Guy were working towards a private offering based on a valuation of $100 million.

“Ashton owns 20 percent of the fund. Under California law, Demi should be entitled to half of his share – $10 million.”

A-Grade has invested in a number of companies including Airbnb, Shazam, Path, Flipboard, Foursquare, Uber, Spotify, Fab.com and SoundCloud.

Ashton, who is currently dating Actress Mila Kunis, is TV’s highest-paid actor. His starring role in sitcom Two And A Half Men netted him a reported $24 million between May 2011 and May 2012.

Demi on the other hand scored her last big pay cheque a decade ago when she netted $2 million for her role in 2003’s Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle.

Brad Pritt praises “heroic” Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie

Brad Pitt has praised his fiancee Angelina Jolie as “heroic” after she underwent a double mastectomy since discovering she was susceptible to cancer that killed her mother.

The actor, who was by Jolie’s side throughout her three operations and recovery involved in removing her breasts — which she revealed yesterday — has told the Evening Standard he was happy for his wife and family.

“Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic,” he said.

“I thank our medical team for their care and focus.

“All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”

When Angelina wrote about her ordeal, going through a preventative double mastectomy and breast reconstruction after testing positive to the BRCA1 gene and being told she had a 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer, she said her partner was very supportive.

“I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition,” she wrote.

“Brad was at the Pink Lotus Breast Center, where I was treated, for every minute of the surgeries. We managed to find moments to laugh together. We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and would bring us closer. And it has.”

Jolie’s surgeon, Dr Kristi Funk was struck by Brad’s support, particularly through the final stages of her procedure, and the strength of the pair.

“On February 2, 2013, Angelina was in the operating room for the first operation,” she writes.

“Her partner was on hand to greet her as soon as she came around from the anaesthetic, as he was during each of the operations.”

A friend of the Hollywood couple has told the Daily Mail that Angelina Jolie is keen to marry Brad Pitt “sooner rather than later” following the procedure.

“Angie is keen on a wedding and the kids are clamouring for a marriage and keep asking Brad and Angie when it’s happening,” a source said.

“Brad has been caught up in production turmoil with his new film World War Z, so there’s been no wedding planning as a result, but Angie has said it will happen sooner rather than later.”

The parents-of-six were engaged in 2011 and Brad revealed that pressure for them to marry was not only coming from the rumour mill but from their children as well.

“I am getting more pressure from my kids, and it is something I want to do within their lifetime, but I also feel like the time has come,” he said speaking at a screening of his film Killing Them Softly.

“The time is night. It’s soon. I got a good feeling about it.”

Angelina Jolie’s surgeon describes her incredible journey

The doctor who treated Angelina Jolie has shared details of the actress's three-month journey to remove her breasts and eradicate the risk of breast cancer.
Angelina Jolie

The doctor who treated Angelina Jolie throughout the process of her preventative double mastectomy has shared details of the actress’s three-month journey to remove her breasts and eradicate the risk of breast cancer.

Dr Kristi Funk, a surgical breast specialist and founder of the Pink Lotus Breast Center in Beverly Hills where Jolie underwent her treatment, has told of Angelina’s experience in a blog post she hopes will prompt women who feel they are at risk of breast cancer to seek advice.

Angelina Jolie: Why I had a double mastectomy

From detection of the BRCA1 gene — which Jolie was found to have giving her an 87 per cent chance of developing breast cancer — to the final stages of reconstruction, Dr Funk gives an incredible insight into the painful but positive journey Jolie has undertaken, also sharing that her husband Brad Pitt was by her side throughout.

Dr Funk describes the main stages of Jolie’s treatment, but says it’s not for everyone.

“Each woman’s case is different,” she says.

“Surgery will not necessarily be the right choice for everyone, and there are alternatives available. As Angelina says in her article, the important thing is to be aware of your options.”

Dr Funk said Angelina’s mastectomies went well and she recovered with “bountiful energy”, keen to get back to work.

She also describes the care Jolie received while recovering from different stages of the mastectomy and reconstruction, and the support she had from her husband, Brad Pitt.

“On February 2, 2013, Angelina was in the operating room for the first operation, the nipple delay,” she writes.

“Her partner was on hand to greet her as soon as she came around from the anesthetic, as he was during each of the operations.”

Brad Pitt has praised his fiance Angelina Jolie as “heroic” for her decision, and commended Dr Funk and the rest of the medical team that cared for her.

“Having witnessed this decision firsthand, I find Angie’s choice, as well as so many others like her, absolutely heroic,” the actor told UK paper the Evening Standard.

“I thank our medical team for their care and focus.

“All I want for is for her to have a long and healthy life, with myself and our children. This is a happy day for our family.”

As Angelina said in her piece in The New York Times where the revealed she had her breasts removed, she hopes her experience will help educate other women.

“Many women unfortunately do not know that BRCA gene mutations exist and could affect them. Breast and ovarian cancers take lives every day — knowledge and action can help prevent the premature loss of those who love us, and whom we deeply love in return,” Dr Funk wrote.

“Like Angelina, I urge women who feel they might have reason to be at risk for a BRCA gene mutation — perhaps because of a strong family history of cancer — to seek medical advice and to take control of their futures.

Australian actors dominate Cannes

Baz Luhrmann, his creative partner and wife Catherine Martin and their leading man and lady, Leonardo di Caprio and Carey Mulligan are expected to appear this evening.
Isla Fisher, Joel Edgerton and Elizabeth Debicki

As the sun rose on the opening day of the Cannes Film Festival, the famed seaside resort on the French Riviera bore all the hallmarks of having been subject to an all-out Aussie invasion.

With director Baz Luhrmann’s highly-anticipated adaptation of The Great Gatsby to open the festival tonight, the Croisette — the designer-store-flecked sweep of road above the Cannes beachfront — is heaving under the weight of Gatsby marketing material.

Enormous banners featuring home-grown stars of the film, Joel Edgerton, Isla Fisher and newcomer Elizabeth Debicki have pride of place on the Carlton Hotel facade ahead of tonight’s red carpet premiere.

Keen star gazers have already been jostling for position at the entrance to the Palais du Congres, setting up ladders and chairs on the road opposite the spot where Luhrmann, his creative partner and wife Catherine Martin and their leading man and lady, Leonardo di Caprio and Carey Mulligan are expected to appear this evening.

Rounding out the Aussie Posse in Cannes is Nicole Kidman, who has been invited to sit on the festival’s prestigious jury, led this year by director Stephen Spielberg.

Though reviews for Luhrmann’s Gatsby have been mixed, the director yesterday told French newspaper Le Figaro, that he felt destiny was smiling on him.

Citing the late Gatsby author F. Scott Fitzgerald’s fondness for the South of France, where in the 1920s he wrote many of his most important works, Luhrmann said he felt there was a fitting sense of symmetry to tonight’s film premiere.

“I’m here with my wife and children, staying at the Hotel du Cap, only a few kilometres from the place where Fitzgerald wrote The Great Gatsby,” he said. “For me, it’s a sign, something like destiny.”

Angelina Jolie reveals: I had a double mastectomy

Angelina Jolie reveals: I had a double mastectomy

Angelina Jolie has had a double mastectomy in the hope of avoiding cancer.

The star has written an open letter in The New York Times saying “the decision to have a mastectomy was not easy”, but that the procedure has decreased her chances of getting breast cancer from 87 per cent to 5 per cent.

The mother of six, who has been uncharacteristically out of the spotlight for a number of months, says she feels “empowered” following her treatment.

“My doctors estimated that I had an 87 per cent risk of breast cancer and a 50 per cent risk of ovarian cancer, although the risk is different in the case of each woman,” she writes.

“Only a fraction of breast cancers result from an inherited gene mutation. Those with a defect in BRCA1 have a 65 percent risk of getting it, on average.

“Once I knew that this was my reality, I decided to be proactive and to minimise the risk as much as I could. I made a decision to have a preventive double mastectomy. I started with the breasts, as my risk of breast cancer is higher than my risk of ovarian cancer, and the surgery is more complex.”

Angelina, whose own mother died of breast cancer at 56, finished her treatment on April 27 following three months of medical procedures during which time, she says, she was able to go on with her usual work, keeping the matter private.

In the letter, which she penned to tell other women about her experience, Angelina explains in detail the procedures and thanks her husband Brad Pitt for his continued support.

“I am fortunate to have a partner, Brad Pitt, who is so loving and supportive. So to anyone who has a wife or girlfriend going through this, know that you are a very important part of the transition,” she writes.

She also goes on to talk about how her six children dealt with her decision.

“It is reassuring that they see nothing that makes them uncomfortable. They can see my small scars and that’s it. Everything else is just Mummy, the same as she always was.

“And they know that I love them and will do anything to be with them as long as I can. On a personal note, I do not feel any less of a woman. I feel empowered that I made a strong choice that in no way diminishes my femininity.”

Angelina, who is set to marry Brad this year, says they made the decision together.

“We knew this was the right thing to do for our family and that it would bring us closer. And it has.”
